Laksevåg (municipality)
Laksevåg is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county in Norway. The municipality was located on the western part of the Bergen Peninsula. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Loddefjord. The municipality, which existed from 1918 until 1972, was a located a short distance west of the city of Bergen, and today it makes up the borough of Laksevåg which is part of the city of Bergen in Bergen Municipality which is now in Vestland county. The municipality was located along the Byfjorden, north of the Grimstadfjorden, and west of the Fyllingsdalen valley. History The municipality of Laksevåg was established on 1 July 1918 when it was separated from the municipality of Askøy. Initially, the municipality had 6,957 residents. Lyderhorn
Lyderhorn is a mountain in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is one of "De syv fjell", the seven mountains surrounding the city centre, and the starting location of Bergen Turlag's annual trip of the mountains. It is located by Liavatnet approximately west of the city center. Due to its prominent visibility from the seas, it has historically been a navigational mark for sailors. The tall Ørnafjellet is an adjacent peak, and below Ørnafjellet are the two lakes Skåleviksvatnet and Søre Skåleviksvatnet. North of Ørnafjellet is Kvarven fort, a strategic point during World War II, still featuring several bunkers and cannon positions used in the defense of Bergen. Lyderhorn, Ørnafjellet and Kvarven are popular hiking areas. Folklore has it that Lyderhorn was a gathering location for witches on Midsummer night, Valborg night (the night of May 1), and at Yule. Fyllingsdalen
Fyllingsdalen () is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough is located southwest of the city centre in the Fyllingsdalen valley, west of the mountain Løvstakken. The neighbourhoods of Fyllingsdalen mainly consist of fairly large apartment buildings with little industry or commerce. The valley's name comes from the farm name "Fyllingen" (from Old Norse: 'fylingr', related to Old Norse 'fæla' - hide/hidden) and "dale" (from Old Norse: 'dalr' - valley) and is attested in 1437 as "Fylingir" . Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Åsane is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1904 until 1972. Arna (municipality)
Arna is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1964 until 1972. It encompassed the northeastern part of the Bergen Peninsula, along the Sørfjorden, bordering the city of Bergen across the mountains to the west. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Indre Arna. The municipality stretched from the village of Ytre Arna to Trengereid along the coast and then inland about to the Espeland area. Gyldenpris is a neighborhood in Bergen, Norway in the borough of Årstad. Geography Gyldenpris lies on the border between the boroughs of Årstad and Laksevåg, with the Solheim neighborhood to the southeast, the Damsgård neighborhood to the northwest, Pudde Fjord to the northeast, and Mount Løvstakken to the south.
