Lakewind Sound Studios is an award winning studio in Canada. Artists to have their work recorded at the studio include, Gordie Sampson with ''Stones'' in 1998, Damhnait Doyle with ''Davnet'' in 2003, The Cottars with '' Made in Cape Breton'' in 2002 and '' On Fire'' in 2004. Background The genesis of the studio goes back to when Fred Lavery and Gordie Sampson were performing together. Gordie Sampson
Gordon Francis Sampson (born July 30, 1971) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and producer from Big Pond, Nova Scotia. Beginning his career as a performer on his hometown island of Cape Breton, both in bands and on his own, Sampson has gone on to achieve international success as a songwriter in Nashville. He has written songs for Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Rascal Flatts. He has also released albums as a solo performer. Sampson has received a Grammy Award, a Juno Award, two ASCAP Awards, East Coast Music Awards, and honorary degrees from Cape Breton University and St. Francis Xavier University. Damhnait Doyle
Damhnait Doyle (; born December 9, 1975) is a Canadian musician, singer and composer. A phonetic spelling of her first name (which is Irish) also serves as the title of her 2003 album. She was a member of Atlantic Canadian band Shaye from 2003–2009 with Kim Stockwood and Tara MacLean (2003–2007). Along with Blake Manning, Stuart Cameron and Peter Fusco, she formed a new band called The Heartbroken which was active since 2009. Career Doyle took singing, guitar and clarinet lessons as a child, and released her debut album, ''Shadows Wake Me'', in 1996. The lead single was "A List of Things", and the album garnered a Juno Award nomination and several East Coast Music Award nominations for Doyle. She toured Canada with Steve Earle in support of his album ''I Feel Alright''. The Cottars
The Cottars are a Canadian Celtic musical group from Cape Breton Island formed in 2000. The group's current members are Ciarán MacGillivray, Fiona MacGillivray, Bruce Timmins, and Claire Pettit. History The Cottars were founded in late 2000 when two sets of siblings, Ciarán MacGillivray and Fiona MacGillivray of Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia, joined with Rosie MacKenzie (then age 11) and Jimmy MacKenzie of Baddeck, Nova Scotia. In 2001, they released their first CD, '' Made In Cape Breton'', on Warner Music. The disc, with their single, a cover of Tom Waits's "The Briar and the Rose", showcased John McDermott's vocals along with Fiona's in two duets. “On Fire” is the second CD released by Cape Breton's Celtic quartet, The Cottars. It was recorded at Lakewind Sound Studios in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and distributed by Warner Music. It was also released in Japan in 2004 by JVC Victor and followed by an extensive Japan tour. East Coast Music Association
The East Coast Music Association is a non-profit association that hosts an annual awards ceremony based in Atlantic Canada for music appreciation on the East Coast of Canada. Its mission is to develop, advance and celebrate East Coast Canadian music, its artists and its industry professionals throughout the region and around the world, and advocate for members to ensure they can sustain music careers while based in Canada’s Atlantic region."
