Aluminé Lake
Aluminé Lake (Spanish: Lago Aluminé) is a large and deep lake located in the Andes in the western part of Neuquén Province, Argentina, near the border with Chile. Aluminé Lake is fed by the outflow of Lake Moquehue and is the source of the Aluminé River whose waters ultimately reach the Atlantic Ocean. The tourist town of Villa Pehuenia is on the northern shore of the lake. Description The western shores of Aluminė and Moquehue lakes are the most northern parts of Argentina in the ecoregion of the Valdivian temperate rain forest featuring forests, lush vegetation, and heavy precipitation, especially in the winter season of the southern hemisphere. Northward from Aluminé lake the climate becomes drier and more characteristic of Mediterranean climates. The endangered monkey-puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana), locally called the "pehuen", is found here in the southernmost part of its range. The north shore of Aluminé Lake is dominated by the Batea Mahuida volcano, elevati ...

Water Resources Management In Argentina
Water resources management (WRM) functions in Argentina are handled by multiple institutions operating at the national, provincial, and river basin level, with a variety of functions and jurisdictions. On the national level, the ''National Institute for Water and the Environment (INA)'' and the ''National Water and Sanitation Utility (AySA)'' are charged with the duties of researching, water resources preservation, developing services, and implementing water projects. Connectivity to water in urban settings is quite good in Argentina, but rural communities lag far behind that of less developed nations. This problem is made worse by one of the highest levels of per capita usage in the world at around 500 L/day. Large rivers and aquifers represent the main source of drinking water supplies and they are facing serious water pollution problems from industrial effluents, urbanization, and harmful agriculture practices. Many other challenges persist throughout the country and most are ...

Lake Vintter
Vintter Lake or Palena Lake is a lake located in Patagonia which is shared by Argentina, where it is known as Lago General Vintter, and by Chile, where it's called Lago Palena. Both names are internationally accepted. The Argentine name is after General Lorenzo Vintter, the second governor of the Argentine Territory of Patagonia (1882–1884), and the first governor of the Territory of the Río Negro (1884–1888). The Palena River originates at Vintter Lake, where it is locally called ''Carrenleufú'' (Greenriver), or in Spanish ''Rio Corcovado''. Vintter Lake is noted for its fly fishing for brook and rainbow trout The rainbow trout (''Oncorhynchus mykiss'') is a species of trout native to cold-water tributaries of the Pacific Ocean in Asia and North America. The steelhead (sometimes called "steelhead trout") is an anadromous (sea-run) form of the coasta ..., both non-native, introduced species. Lake Rivadavia
Lake Rivadavia (Lago Rivadavia) is a lake in Chubut Province, Argentina. Lake Rivadavia is the second lake, after Lake Cholila, in the chain of lakes in the Futaleufú River system of Argentina which via Yelcho Lake and the Yelcho River flows into the Pacific Ocean in Chile. Located in the Andes, Lake Rivadavia is of glacial origin and occupies a narrow north to south valley between glaciated peaks. All the lake except the northern tip is in the Los Alerces National Park. Argentina Provincial Highway 71 (RP 71) (unpaved in 2016) follows the eastern coast of the lake. Development consists only of a few campgrounds near the highway. Villa Lago Rivadavia is the only nearby town and is located north of the lakeshore. Description Lake Rivadavia sits in a fjord-like trench at an elevation of between glaciated mountains rising to Sierra Rivadavia, on the east and Cerro Coronado, on the west. Puelo Lake
Lake Puelo ( es, Lago Puelo) is a lake located in the northern part of Chubut Province, in Argentine Patagonia. Of fluvial-glacial origin, its deepest point is 180 meters. The narrow L-shaped lake is surrounded by Lago Puelo National Park. The lake is fed by the small rivers, ''Azul'' and ''Quemquemtreu''. The outflow from Puelo Lake is the Puelo River which flows to the Pacific Ocean through Chile. The river emerges from the lake at the border with Chile, flows through a narrow turbulent passage called Arroyo los Hitos about long and into Lake Puelo Inferior (Lower Puelo Lake), entirely in Chile. The lake is surrounded by typical Valdivian temperate rain forests, more typical of the maritime-influenced area of Chile rather than the eastern side of the Andes in Argentina. The term ''Puelo'' seems to have its origin in the Mapuche expression ''puel-có'', (''puel'' = east, ''co'' = water) meaning something like "Water at the East", as it was located in the easterly part of ...

Nahuel Huapi Lake
Nahuel Huapi Lake ( es, Lago Nahuel Huapí) is a lake in the lake region of northern Patagonia between the provinces of Río Negro Province, Río Negro and Neuquén Province, Neuquén, in Argentina. The tourist center of Bariloche is on the southern shore of the lake. The June 2011 Puyehue eruption, 2011 eruption of the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcanic complex, in neighboring Chile, caused parts of the lake's surface to be blanketed in volcanic ash. During the Last Glacial Maximum of the Llanquihue glaciation the lake basin was wholly occupied by a glacier. Etymology The name of the lake derives from the toponym of its major island in Mapudungun (Mapuche language): "Island of Puma (genus), Puma", from ''nahuel'', 'puma', and ''huapí'', 'island'. There is, however, more to the word "Nahuel"—it can also signify 'a man who by Magic (paranormal), sorcery has been Shapeshifting, transformed to a puma'. Geography Nahuel Huapi lake, located within the Nahuel Huapi National Par ...

Lake Moquehue
A lake is an area filled with water, localized in a basin, surrounded by land, and distinct from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean, although, like the much larger oceans, they do form part of the Earth's water cycle. Lakes are distinct from lagoons, which are generally coastal parts of the ocean. Lakes are typically larger and deeper than ponds, which also lie on land, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which usually flow in a channel on land. Most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams. Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Other lakes are found in endorheic basins or along the courses of mature rivers, where a river channel has widened into a basin. Some parts of the world have many lakes formed by the chaotic drainage patterns left over from the last ice ...
