Lakeridge Health Corporation
Lakeridge Health is a health system and hospital network serving Durham Region, Ontario in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area. It operates four acute hospitals with emergency departments ( Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Lakeridge Health Port Perry, Lakeridge Health Ajax and Pickering), one specialty hospital with a regional mandate (Lakeridge Health Whitby) and a variety of offsite locations. WannaCry Ransomware Attack
The WannaCry ransomware attack was a worldwide cyberattack in May 2017 by the WannaCry ransomware cryptoworm, which targeted computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system by encrypting data and demanding ransom payments in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. It propagated by using EternalBlue, an exploit developed by the United States National Security Agency (NSA) for Windows systems. EternalBlue was stolen and leaked by a group called The Shadow Brokers a month prior to the attack. While Microsoft had released patches previously to close the exploit, much of WannaCry's spread was from organizations that had not applied these, or were using older Windows systems that were past their end-of-life. Lakeridge Health Ajax and Pickering is a hospital in Ajax, Ontario, Canada that is operated by Lakeridge Health. The hospital opened in 1954 as the ''Ajax and Pickering General Hospital''. It was founded in 1954 as the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital with 38 patient beds. New four-storey wings were added in 1964 and 1994. A major $80 million redevelopment project was completed in 2010. Almost 25 percent of the hospital was renovated. It was created in 1998 through the merger of Centenary Health Centre in Toronto and the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital in Ajax, serving the communities of Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax and Whitby. Lakeridge Health Oshawa, formerly Oshawa General Hospital, is a hospital located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in August 1910 in a two-story building, and major additions were made in the 1920s (surgical and maternity wings). "G" Wing opened in 1970 on the occasion of the hospital's 60th anniversary. In 1998 the hospital, along with Memorial Hospital Bowmanville, North Durham Health Services, and Whitby General Hospital were placed under the administration of the Lakeridge Health Corporation. Uxbridge Cottage Hospital is a cottage hospital in Uxbridge, Ontario. History Opened in 1958 after a decade of planning, Uxbridge Hospital has undergone renovations with additions in 1967 and 1996 to 1998 (covered area at the main entrance and interior renovations). Lakeridge Health Port Perry is a hospital located in Port Perry, Ontario, Canada. The hospital serves the townships of Scugog, Brock and Uxbridge in Durham Region. History The hospital was founded as the private in 1946 at a home at 96 John Street as the Port Perry Hospital, but closed to cost of upgrading the old building in 1948.
