Lake Township is a civil township of Benzie County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 694 at the 2020 census. The township is irregularly shaped, following the shore of Lake Michigan from Crystal Lake north to the border with Leelanau County. A portion of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in the northern end of the township. Communities *Aral is a ghost town that was built at the mouth of Otter Creek on Lake Michigan in 1880. It was built around the Otter Creek Lumber Mill. It was named after Aral, Ireland, because "Otter Creek" was already the name of another place in Michigan. It had a post office from 1884 until 1900. Lake Charter Township is a charter township of Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,972 at the 2010 census. The township is located in the west central portion of the county. Lake Michigan and the city of Bridgman are to the west, Lincoln Township to the north, Baroda Township to the east, Weesaw Township to the south, and Chikaming Township to the southwest. Communities *Browntown was a village in Lake Township that was platted in 1861. It no longer exists. *Livingston is a small unincorporated community in the township at the junction of Livington and Gast roads, just east of I-94 and Red Arrow Highway at in section 8 in the northern part of the township. A post office was established in August 1890 and operated until July 1912. Lake Township is a former civil township located in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The small township consisted of 0.6 mi2 (1.7 km2) of the Macomb County portion of the village of Grosse Pointe Shores, which was part of Grosse Pointe Township and mostly located in Wayne County on the western shores of Lake Saint Clair. At the 2000 census, the township population was 80. On February 24, 2009, the residents of the village of Grosse Pointe Shores voted to incorporate as a city, effectively disestablishing Lake and Grosse Pointe townships when the city was formally established on April 1, 2009.
