Oakland Lake is a 255-acre lake located in central Oakland County in both Waterford Township and Independence Township. There are several basins in the lake, reaching 25 feet, 27 feet, and the deepest being 64 feet, with all three basins having relatively steep side slopes. There are a number of shallow bays on the lake that are less than five-feet deep and several small islands. Originally called Pond Lake, Oakland Lake is located on the upper reaches of the Clinton River watershed. Independence Township is a charter township of Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 36,686 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Independence Township was first organized in 1834. Clinton River
The Clinton River is a river in southeastern Michigan in the United States. It is named in honor of DeWitt Clinton, who was governor of New York from 1817 to 1823. The main branch of the river rises from wetlands and coldwater tributaries from within Independence, Brandon and Springfield Townships. A series of dams create a number of small lakes west of Pontiac, the last of which is Crystal Lake. The river is piped under downtown Pontiac, re-emerging to the east of downtown. The north branch and the middle branch rise in northern Macomb County and join the main branch in Clinton Township (which was named after the river in 1824). Woodhull Lake is a all-sports lake located in central Oakland County, Michigan. The lake has a maximum depth of . It is located in both Waterford Township and Independence Township. Woodhull Lake is located on the upper reaches of the Clinton River watershed. The Clinton River enters Woodhull Lake on the west end and exits on the north end. Schoolhouse Lake is an all-sports 37-acre lake located in central Oakland County, on the east side of Waterford in Waterford Township. The lake is part of the Clinton River watershed. The Clinton River enters Schoolhouse Lake on the north end and exits on the west end. Upstream is Lake Oakland and Wormer Lake (27.5 acres). Downstream from Schoolhouse Lake is Loon Lake. Loon Lake is a freshwater lake located in Waterford Township, Michigan. It borders Dixie Highway on the west and is south of Walton Blvd. on the north. The sand-bottom lake is 243 acres, making it the 18th largest lake in Oakland County, Michigan and one of the largest in Waterford Township. Loon Lake is located on the upper reaches of the Clinton River watershed. The Clinton River enters Lake Loon on the north end from Lake Oakland upstream. The Clinton River exits to the southwest downstream of Loon Lake. Loon Lake also connects to Silver Lake to the east.
