Lake Munmorah, New South Wales
Lake Munmorah is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the local government area. Location and features Adjacent to Lake Munmorah is the Munmorah State Conservation Area. The park offers coastal bushwalking, rock fishing and surf breaks adjacent to Frazer Park. Lake Munmorah hosts four schools along the same road (Carters road). They are Saint Brendan's Primary school (a Catholic primary school), Saint Brigid's College (a Catholic secondary school), Lake Munmorah Public School (a public primary school), and Lake Munmorah High School (a public secondary school). The actual Lake is a very shallow lake that peaks at about 3 to 4m deep, though is rather wide, with three main access areas: Elizabeth Bay, Tom Burke Reserve, and Colongra Bay Reserve. Central Coast (New South Wales)
The Central Coast is a peri-urban region in New South Wales, Australia, lying on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of Sydney and south of Newcastle. Northern Lake Munmorah Sand Dunes is a natural site in Northern Lake Munmorah, Australia. The eight sand dunes were formed 40,000 years during huge sandstorms over many years. Munmorah Power Station
Munmorah Power Station is a demolished coal-fired power station with four 350 MW English Electric steam driven turbo-alternators for a combined capacity of 1,400 MW. The station was located near Doyalson, on the shores of Lake Munmorah, New South Wales, Australia and was owned and operated by Delta Electricity, a company owned by the New South Wales Government. In July 2012 the coal-fired generators were permanently retired from service, with demolition occurring from 2016 to 2018. However, the nearby gas-fired Colongra power station, which was commissioned in 2009, remains in operation. History and facilities The station was constructed with 4 English Electric 350 MW turbo-alternators. Munmorah had a total capacity of 1,400 MW. ''Water Rats'' is an Australian TV police procedural broadcast on the Nine Network from 1996 to 2001. The series was based on the work of the men and women of the Sydney Water Police who fight crime around Sydney Harbour and surrounding locales. The show was set on and around Goat Island in Sydney Harbour. ''Water Rats'' premiered on 12 February 1996, and ran for six seasons and 177 episodes. Colin Friels and Catherine McClements were the original stars of the series and were instrumental in the show's early success. They both departed the show in 1999. Steve Bisley (born 26 December 1951) is an Australian writer, film and television actor. He is best known for his roles in the films ''Mad Max'' and ''The Great Gatsby''. On TV, some of his better-known roles include Detective Sergeant Jack Christey on '' Water Rats'' and Jim Knight on '' Doctor Doctor''. Early life Bisley was born at Lake Munmorah, New South Wales and grew up on a small farm called Stillways. The son of schoolteachers, he moved to Sydney just after his seventeenth birthday. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. Aboriginal Australians
Aboriginal Australians are the various Indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands, such as Tasmania, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Tiwi Islands, and Groote Eylandt, but excluding the Torres Strait Islands. Darkinjung People
The Darkinjung (not to be confused with the Darkinyung people further inland) are the Local Aboriginal Land Council in the Central Coast, New South Wales, area of Australia and a major landowner on the Central Coast, participating in formal joint management of some areas of state forest in the region. It represents over 450 local Aboriginal residents. The Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council are self-appointed caretakers of the Central Coast of NSW Australia. They do not claim to be the traditional owners of the area in which they reside. The Darkinjung people are believed to have died out in the late 19th century due to the effects of disease and dispossession. Awabakal People
The Awabakal people , are those Aboriginal Australians who identify with or are descended from the Awabakal tribe and its clans, Indigenous to the coastal area of what is now known as the Hunter Region of New South Wales. Their traditional territory spread from Wollombi in the west, to the Lower Hunter River near Newcastle and Lake Macquarie in the north. The name Kuringgai, also written Guringai, has often been used as a collective denominator of the Awabakal and several other tribes in this belt, but Norman Tindale has challenged it as an arbitrary coinage devised by ethnologist John Fraser in 1892. For Tindale, Kuringgai was synonymous with Awabakal. Arthur Capell however asserted that there was indeed evidence for a distinct Kuringgai language, which, in Tindale's schema, would imply they were a distinct people from the Awabakal.
