DeFuniak Springs is a city in Walton County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,968 as of the 2020 Census. DeFuniak Springs Historic District
The DeFuniak Springs Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on August 28, 1992) located in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. DeFuniak Springs, originally Lake DeFuniak, was named after Fred DeFuniak, the chief executive of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The district is bounded by Nelson and Park Avenues and 2nd and 12th Streets. It contains 172 historic buildings and 2 objects. One such historic memorial is Florida's first stone memorial to the Confederacy. This memorial was first erected in Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church but currently resides on DeFuniak Springs' courthouse lawn. Other than the Confederacy, a huge part of the town's history includes railroads. Kingsley Lake is an almost perfectly circular lake of about in North East Florida, is located inside Clay County about east of Starke, Florida. According to some sources, it is the oldest and highest lake in Florida, located on the edge of the Trail Ridge formation. The lake is a very stable lake with a sandy bottom. Its deepest point is about inside of a steep sinkhole within the lake. Kingsley Lake is so nearly circular that pilots call it the "silver dollar lake". There are around 180 docks around the lake, mostly around the western half of the lake encompassing the small community of the same name. Camp Blanding is on the eastern side of the lake as part of the Florida National Guard, as well as a small airstrip just to the southeast of the lake as part of Camp Blanding.
