Lake Charles Metropolitan Area
The Lake Charles metropolitan statistical area is a metropolitan area in the Acadiana region of southwest Louisiana that covers two parishes— Calcasieu and Cameron. According to a 2019 census estimate, the MSA had a population of 210,409. It is also part of the larger Lake Charles-Jennings combined statistical area which had a population of 241,777 in 2019. The Lake Charles MSA also shares borders with the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area to the west. Metropolitan Lake Charles, the principal city, is commonly referred to as the Lake Area. In the United States, a metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is a geographical region with a relatively high population density at its core and close economic ties throughout the area. Such regions are neither legally Incorporated town, incorporated as a city or town would be, nor are they legal administrative divisions like County (United States), counties or separate entities such as U.S. state, states; because of this, the precise definition of any given metropolitan area can vary with the source. Moss Bluff, Louisiana
Moss Bluff is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 12,522 at the 2020 census. Located just north of the city of Lake Charles, it is considered a suburb of that city. Moss Bluff is a burgeoning community, and is one of the communities in Calcasieu Parish besides Lake Charles and Sulphur experiencing growth. Mossville, Louisiana
Mossville is a small, predominantly African American unincorporated community on the outskirts of Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area and is sandwiched between Sulphur to the west and Westlake to the east. With the Sasol expansion project almost all of the homes north of Old Spanish Trail have now been either moved to other locations or torn down and the land completely deforested. The community is featured in the 2002 documentary film ''Blue Vinyl'', which focuses on the health effects of nearby polyvinyl chloride factories on community members. The film features footage of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade collecting air samples to determine the toxicity of the community's air. Johnson Bayou, Louisiana
Johnson Bayou is a small unincorporated community located on the Creole Nature Trail along the Gulf Coast in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States, and is named after Daniel Johnson, who came to the area ''circa'' 1790. The village is a barrier island spread across coastal chenieres which were formed by deltaic sedimentation by the shifting of the Mississippi River. Holly Beach, Louisiana
Holly Beach (french: Plage-d'Houx), also known as the "Cajun Riviera" (french: La Rivière Acadienne), is a coastal community in unincorporated community Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States. Known for crabbing and a drive on the beach, this small Southwest Louisiana community mainly consisted of beach-front cabins called "camps" which, due to the threat of hurricanes, were "built-to-be-rebuilt" by its residents. Hayes (pronounced heɪz) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 780. It is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hayes also is home to the musical artist known as Rosco from the Pop duo Jaime & Rosco. Grand Lake is an unincorporated community in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States. Grand Lake is located along Louisiana Highway 384, south of Lake Charles. It is within a section of the Creole Nature Trail, an All-American Road. From spring to summer, rice, soybean, rye grass, and sugar cane are commonly found in fields throughout the community. In fall and winter, migrating waterfowl are abundant. Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge on Hwy 384 (Grand Lake) crosses the Intracoastal Waterway onto the island of Big Lake. The pontoon bridge has no vertical clearance in the closed-to-navigation position. In 2003, the bridge normally opened to pass navigation an average of 1005 times a month.
