Laguna De Rocha
Laguna de Rocha (Rocha Lagoon) is an important body of water located in Rocha Department, Uruguay. The lagoon and its surroundings were declared a protected area in 1977. On October 31, 1945, a Latecoere 631 (F-BANT) of Air France made an emergency landing in Laguna da Rocha after the no. 3 engine propeller separated and sliced a 3 meter hole into the fuselage, killing 2 passengers and starting a small fire. Rocha Department
Rocha () is a department in the east of Uruguay. Its capital is the city of Rocha. It borders Maldonado Department to its west, Lavalleja Department to its northwest, Treinta y Tres Department to its north, while to its northeast Laguna Merín forms part of its border with Brazil and at the south end of the lake it also borders the southernmost end of Brazil, with the city of Chuy "shared" between both countries, the border passing through its main commercial avenue. The Latécoère 631 was a civil transatlantic flying boat built by Latécoère, the largest ever built up to its time. The type was not a success, being unreliable and uneconomic to operate.
