Lage, Lower Saxony
Lage is a community on the river Dinkel in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim in Lower Saxony with roughly 1,000 inhabitants. It belongs to the Joint Community (''Samtgemeinde'') of Neuenhaus. Of particular sightseeing interest are the church, built in 1687, the watermill, built in 1270, the castle ruins (first mentioned in a document in 1183, destroyed in 1324–1326 and 1626), the lordly manor, built in 1686 and the historic Oak Avenue with the manor staff’s old houses. The extended name ''Herrlichkeit Lage'' – “Herrlichkeit” means grandness or magnificence – refers to the time between the end of the Thirty Years' War and the year 1803, in which Lage was a self-standing small state with its own jurisdiction. The biggest club is the sport club, ''Rot-Weiß Lage 29 e. V.'' (about 700 members). Lage, North Rhine-Westphalia
Lage () is a town in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, approximatively 8 km northwest of the administrative centre Detmold. It has 35,099 inhabitants (2016). The coat of arms of Lage depicts a farmer's plough. The city is not far from the Teutoburg Forest. Due to its convenient location Lage developed into a traffic hub in the former Principality of Lippe, today's district of Lippe. History Numerous finds indicate a colonization of the location since the Neolithic times (2400 to 1800 b.c.). Around 900 a.d. the parish church of St. Johann (today's Marktkirche) has been founded on a hillhock at the river Werre and is the origin of today's city Lage. In 1274, Lage is mentioned the first time in a document for the life annuity of the local clergy by the sentence ''"Jordanus plebanis in Lagis".'' Julian Lage ( ; born December 25, 1987) is an American guitarist and composer. Career A child prodigy, Lage was the subject of the 1996 short documentary film ''Jules at Eight''. At 12, he performed at the 2000 Grammy Awards. Three years later, he became a faculty member of the Stanford Jazz Workshop at Stanford University. Classically trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he has studied at Sonoma State University and the Ali Akbar College of Music. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2008.
