Lafrae Olivia Sci
LaFrae Olivia Sci is a rock, jazz, and session drummer. She is also a composer, arranger, and bandleader who was musical director for Sandra Bernhard's Broadway musical ''Everything Bad and Beautiful''. She participated in the jazz ambassadors program. LaFrae is a founding member of the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. She leads a music education program sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center designed to expand the jazz knowledge of middle school musicians in New York City. She has performed with Burnt Sugar, Hot Caramel with Irene Cara, and she formed The 13th Amendment with members of Melvin Van Peebles wid Laxative. ''Everything Bad & Beautiful'' is the title of a live stage show and album performed/recorded by singer/comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard. The show ran in 2006 in New York City at the Daryl Roth Theaterbr>In the performance Bernhard does what she is best known for: she rips apart celebrity culture while commenting on events of the time. Among the topics she addresses: Britney Spears, Laura Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Bob Dylan, Mariah Carey, golf and the war on terror. The album, released in 2006, is a live recording of her one-woman show of the same title; it combines comedic monologues and musical performances. It was released by Breaking Records and was originally sold through the website and in the lobby of the live show. Jazz ambassadors is the name often given to jazz musicians who were sponsored by the US State Department to tour Eastern Europe, the Middle East, central and southern Asia and Africa as part of cultural diplomacy initiatives to promote American values globally. Jazz At Lincoln Center
Jazz at Lincoln Center is part of Lincoln Center in New York City. The organization was founded in 1987 and opened at Time Warner Center in October 2004. Wynton Marsalis is the artistic director and the leader of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The center hosts performances by the orchestra and by visiting musicians. Irene Cara Escalera (March 18, 1959 – November 25, 2022) was an American singer, songwriter and actress of Black, Puerto Rican and Cuban descent. Melvin Van Peebles (born Melvin Peebles; August 21, 1932 – September 21, 2021) was an American actor, filmmaker, writer, and composer. He worked as an active filmmaker into the 2000s. His feature film debut, '' The Story of a Three-Day Pass'' (1967), was based on his own French-language novel ' and was shot in France, as it was difficult for a black American director to get work at the time. Ronald Jay Blumenthal (born September 25, 1969), better known by his stage name Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal or just simply as Bumblefoot, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. He adopted his nickname from the bacterial infection of the same name, which he learned about while helping his wife study for her veterinary exams. The name went from being just the name of an album, to the name of a record label, to a band name, to eventually his name as a solo artist. ''Uncool'' is the fifth studio album by recording artist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal released in February 2002. This is his third release under the Bumblefoot name. ''Uncool'' was originally released in 2000 only in France. The 2002 release contains two cover songs not included on the French version - "What's New Pussycat?" by Burt Bacharach and " Can't Take My Eyes Off You" sung by Frankie Valli. Songs excluded from the American release but on the French release were eventually included on Thal's ''Forgotten Anthology'' CD released in 2003. Reuben Wilson
Reuben Wilson (born April 9, 1935) is a jazz organist. He performs soul jazz and acid jazz, and is best known for his title track "Got to Get Your Own". He was born in Mounds, Oklahoma and his family moved to Pasadena when he was 5. He played in Los Angeles with drummer Al Bartee, then moved to New York to begin a recording career. In addition to playing with jazz musicians Melvin Sparks and Willis Jackson, Wilson led the local band Wildare Express. He remains an active musician, and still resides in New York City.
