Lyse Lafontaine (born 1942) is a Canadian film producer known for working with directors Jean-Claude Lauzon and Xavier Dolan. She works at Lyla Films in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Early life Born to '' La Presse'' reporter Gaston Lafontaine, Lyse studied literature at the Université de Montréal and earned her degree. She married Stéphane Venne and managed the rock band Offenbach in 1972. She became a stage manager on the 1974 film '' The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz'', and married her second husband, moving to The Bahamas for two years before returning to Canada. Career In 1976, Lafontaine served as location manager for the film ''The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane'', starring Jodie Foster. Lafontaine met Lauzon when he was pitching his screenplay for ''Léolo'' (1992), which other producers had rejected. Sir Louis-Hippolyte Ménard '' dit'' La Fontaine, 1st Baronet, KCMG (October 4, 1807 – February 26, 1864) was a Canadian politician who served as the first Premier of the United Province of Canada and the first head of a responsible government in Canada. He was born in Boucherville, Lower Canada in 1807. A jurist and statesman, La Fontaine was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada in 1830. He was a supporter of Papineau and member of the ''Parti canadien'' (later the ''Parti patriote''). After the severe consequences of the Rebellions of 1837 against the British authorities, he advocated political reforms within the new Union regime of 1841. Under this Union of the two Canadas he worked with Robert Baldwin in the formation of a party of Upper and Lower Canadian liberal reformers. Léonie La Fontaine
Léonie La Fontaine (October 2, 1857–February 26, 1949) was a Belgian pioneering feminist and pacifist. Active in the international feminism struggle, she was a member of the Belgian League for the Rights of Women, the National Belgian Women Council and the Belgian’s Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Her brother was Henri La Fontaine, Belgian international lawyer and president of the International Peace Bureau who received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1913, and was also an early advocate for women's rights and suffrage, founding in 1890 the Belgian League for the Rights of Women. Laurent-David Lafontaine (August 10, 1823 – February 20, 1892) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Napierville in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1870 to 1881 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Philippe, Lower Canada, the son of François Lafontaine and Marie Coupal, and was educated at the Collège de Montréal. He qualified to practice as a doctor in 1846 and set up practice in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Édouard. Lafontaine was also agent for the seigneury of Saint-Georges. He was mayor of Saint-Édouard, warden for Napierville County and secretary-treasurer for the Saint-Édouard school board. He served as Liberal Party whip in 1881. Joseph Lafontaine (August 7, 1829 – June 1907) was a notary, journalist and political figure in Quebec. He represented Shefford in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1878 to 1881 as a Liberal. He was born Lesiège Lafontaine in Saint-Antoine-de-Lavaltrie, Lower Canada, the son of Abraham Lafontaine and Marie-Thérèse Robillard. He was educated at the Collège de l'Assomption and at Montreal, qualified as a notary in 1856 and set up practice in Saint-Ours. In 1871, he married Céline-Élisa Mongeau. Jean Sybil La Fontaine FRAI (born 1 November 1931) is a British anthropologist and emeritus professor of the London School of Economics. She has done research in Africa and the UK, on topics including ritual, gender, child abuse, witchcraft and satanism. In 1994 she wrote a government report: ''The Extent and Nature of Organised and Ritual Abuse''. Early life La Fontaine was born in Nairobi, Kenya, on 1 November 1931 and educated at Kenya High School for Girls, Nairobi. She then studied at Newnham College, Cambridge, gaining a B.A. in archaeology and anthropology in 1953 and a Ph.D. in 1957. Career After teaching at King's College, Newcastle (1961, part-time), Lovanium University, Zaire (1962-1963) and Birkbeck College (1965-1968), La Fontaine was appointed Reader in Anthropology at the London School of Economics in 1968 and Professor of Anthropology there in 1978.
