John Laffin
John Laffin (21 September 1922 – 23 September 2000) was an Australian 20th century military historian. Early life John Alfred Charles Laffin was born on 21 September 1922 at Mosman, Sydney, Australia. Both of his parents had served with the British Imperial military forces in World War I, his father as a commissioned infantry officer, and his mother as a nurse. In the late 1930s Laffin was employed as a trainee journalist on the staff of ''Smith's Weekly'', one of Australia's most patriotic newspaper-style magazines, and the ''Wagga Wagga Advertiser''. In 1941 he enlisted as a Private into the 2nd Australian Imperial Force, subsequently being commissioned as an officer and going on to see active service in the New Guinea campaign in World War II. Mike Laffin
Michael Alexander Laffin (January 12, 1918 – May 23, 2019) was a Canadian politician and dentist. He represented the electoral district of Cape Breton Centre in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1963 to 1974, and 1981 to 1988. He was a Progressive Conservative. Career Laffin was first elected in the 1963 provincial election, defeating New Democrat House leader Michael James MacDonald. He was re-elected in the 1967 and 1970 elections. Laffin was defeated when he ran for re-election in 1974, losing his seat to New Democrat James "Buddy" MacEachern. In the 1981 election, Laffin returned to politics and defeated MacEachern to regain the seat. Following the election, he was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Housing. Laffin was re-elected in 1984, and retained his cabinet seat until a cabinet shuffle in November 1985, when he was appointed Minister of Government Services. Dominique Laffin
Dominique Laffin (June 3, 1952, in Saint-Mandé, Val-de-Marne, France – June 12, 1985, in Paris) was a French actress who appeared in 19 films between 1975 and 1985. Laffin made her major film debut in 1977, gaining critical acclaim for her role in Jacques Doillon's 1979 film, ''La Femme qui pleure''. For her performance, she was nominated for the César Award for Best Actress. That same year, she co-starred with a young Roberto Benigni in the film '' Chiedo asilo''. Her career was cut short at the age of 33 by a massive heart attack. Her daughter later said that she believed Laffin had committed suicide, but says that she has not been able to confirm this either way. During her short career, Laffin appeared with many of France's rising young stars, including Gérard Depardieu, Juliette Binoche and Miou-Miou, as well as established stars such as Yves Montand. Christina Laffin
Christina Laffin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She is also a Canada Research Chair in premodern Japanese literature and culture, and co-director at the Centre for Japanese Research. Her research interests include medieval travel diaries; women's education and socialization before 1600; poetic practices and waka culture; theories of travel, gender, and autobiography; noh theatre; and comparative approaches to medieval literature. Education Laffin received her B.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1996. Following this, she spent a year at the University of Shiga Prefecture as a Monbushō Research Student in Women's History. She then studied at the University of Tokyo, receiving her M.A. in Japanese Literature in 1999.
