Laerte de Souza Santos (born 2 September 1958) is a Brazilian military, Army General, and Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces. Santos became commander on 31 May 2021, replacing Raul Botelho. Career Santos started his military career on 4 March 1974, at the Army Cadet Preparatory School, and later the Agulhas Negras Military Academy. He was declared an aspiring officer on 15 December 1980. Brazilian Order Of Precedence
The order of precedence in Brazil is a symbolic hierarchy of officials used to direct protocol. It is regulated by Presidential Decree number 70.274 of March 9, 1972, signed by former President Emilio Medici. The following order applies to ceremonies hosted by the federal government. This formal order of precedence was established during the military dictatorship, and hasn't been amended after the country's return to democracy in the 1980s. However, changes have informally been introduced to it, so that the ''de jure'' precedence no longer corresponds to the ''de facto'' arrangements that prevail in current practice. Agulhas Negras Military Academy
The ''Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras'' (AMAN, en, Military Academy of Agulhas Negras - named after the Agulhas Negras summit) is the biggest among several schools of formation of combatant officers of the Brazilian Army.
