Laeiszhalle
The Laeiszhalle (), formerly Musikhalle Hamburg, is a concert hall in the Neustadt of Hamburg, Germany and home to the Hamburger Symphoniker and the Philharmoniker Hamburg. The hall is named after the German shipowning company F. Laeisz, founder of the concert venue. The Baroque Revival Laeiszhalle was planned by the architect Martin Haller and inaugurated at its location on the Hamburg Wallring on 4 June 1908. At that time, the Musikhalle was Germany's largest and most modern concert hall. Composers such as Richard Strauss, Sergei Prokofiev, Igor Stravinsky and Paul Hindemith played and conducted their works in the Laeiszhalle. Pianist Vladimir Horowitz gave one of his first international performances in 1926; violinist Yehudi Menuhin gave a guest performance in 1930 at the age of twelve. The Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg (Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra) is an internationally renowned symphony orchestra based in Hamburg. As of 2015, Kent Nagano has been General Music Director (''Generalmusikdirektor'') and chief conductor ''(Chefdirigent).'' The Philharmoniker Hamburg also serves as the orchestra of the Hamburg State Opera. Hamburg Wallring
The Wallring () is a semi-circular urban ensemble encircling the inner city of Hamburg. It consists of a four-lane ring road with a total length of and a continuous built-up street front on its inner side. The outer perimeter is – for the largest part – made up by a string of parks. The Wallring follows the outline of Hamburg's old city wall, and was developed in the first half of the 19th century, when the defensive wall, the (Wallanlagen), was razed. The wall that defined the city's edge from the 1620s until the 1840s has had a strong impact on shaping the modern city. The Wallring park consists of several differently named sections, which — based on their common historical development — are characterized by a certain unity, but also by a number of dissimilarities. Martin Haller
Martin Emil Ferdinand Haller (1835–1925) was a German architect, who designed the Hamburg Rathaus and the building of the Consulate General of the United States in Hamburg, and a member of the Hamburg Parliament. Early life and family Haller was born on 1 December 1835 in Hamburg. His father was the jurist Nicolaus Ferdinand Haller (1805–1876), a Mayor of Hamburg. Haller's mother Adele was a Jewish-born daughter of Amschel Oppenheimer. Haller attended the Gymnasium ''Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums'' until 1855. Haller studied architecture in Potsdam, Berlin, Paris, and England. In 1865, Haller married Antonie (née Schramm, 1846–1925) and had a son, Ferdinand (1871–1963), who was deputy director of the HAPAG, and 3 daughters, Antonie and Marie-Ellen. The Symphoniker Hamburg (''Hamburg Symphony Orchestra'') is a German orchestra based in Hamburg, Germany. Founded in 1957, it is one of the city's three largest orchestras. The Hamburg Symphony Orchestra is the orchestra in residence in the Laeiszhalle, the Hamburg Music Hall. Neustadt (, literally: "New town") is one of the inner-city districts of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany. History By 1529, Hamburg was firmly anchored in Lutheran Reformation and had successfully managed to divert its trade away from the Baltic to more dynamic markets along the Atlantic. Hamburg's economy boomed, between 1526 and 1551 the state budget tripled, and the Hanseatic city had become a major trade and capital market. The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California.
