Dodurga (tribe)
Dodurga, Dudurga, Dogar or Tutırka ( tr, Dodurga boyu, tk, Dodurga taýpasy) was one of the 24 Oghuz tribes from the Bozok wing, the tribe of Ay Khan. History In the Middle Ages, Dodurga (do:durga, first syllable is pronounced longer), was one of the 24 Oghuz tribes. They appear as ''Tutırka'' (Tuvtırka) in Mahmud Kashgari's Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk and in all other similar sources. Kashgari ranked the Dodurga 16th out of the 24 tribes, Rashid al-Din Hamadani ranked them 10th, while Abulghazi Bahadur ranked them 7th. Rashid al-Din held the view that Dodurga derived from Oghuz Khagan's second son Ay Khan, whereas Abulghazi mentioned them as the son of Yildiz Khan (Oghuz Khagan's third son). They both thought that the meaning of the word Dodurga was "to take possession and make a land" (or "to take the land and keep it"). There is currently no other evidence as to the meaning of the name. Russian historian Karpov noted that most of the Dodurga arrived in Anatolia and the sout ...

Ertuğrul Characters
Ertuğrul or Ertuğrul Gazi ( ota, ارطغرل, Erṭoġrıl; tk, ; died ) was a 13th century bey, who was the father of Osman I. Little is known about Ertuğrul's life. According to Ottoman tradition, he was the son of Suleyman Shah, the leader of the Kayı tribe (a claim which has come under criticism from many historians) of the Oghuz Turks (known as Turkomans by then). These Turkomans fled from western Central Asia to Anatolia to escape the Mongol conquests, but he may instead have been the son of Gündüz Alp. According to this legend, after the death of his father, Ertuğrul and his followers entered the service of the Sultanate of Rum, for which he was rewarded with dominion over the town of Söğüt on the frontier with the Byzantine Empire. This set off the chain of events that would ultimately lead to the founding of the Ottoman Empire. Biography Nothing is known with certainty about Ertuğrul's life, other than that he was the father of Osman; historians a ...

In the construction of words of the Turkic languages, the suffix "-''um / -ım''" adds "''my''", making the word "Khanum" as "my Khan". This arises from the tale, depicting a Khan announcing to his subjects ''I am your Khan, and She is my Khan (Khanum)''. "Khan" is also seen as a title in the Xianbei confederationHenning, W. Alp (title)
This is a list of titles and appellations used in the Ottoman Empire. In place of surnames, Muslims in the Empire carried titles such as "Sultan", "Pasha", "Hoca", "Bey", " Hanım", "Efendi", etc. These titles either defined their formal profession (such as Pasha, Hoca, etc.) or their informal status within the society (such as Bey, Hanım, Efendi, etc.). Later, family surnames were made mandatory in Turkey by the 1934 Surname Law. Usage by Ottoman royalty The sovereigns' main titles were Sultan, Padishah (Emperor) and Khan; which were of Arabic, Persian and Turkish/Mongolian origin, respectively. His full style was the result of a long historical accumulation of titles expressing the empire's rights and claims as successor to the various states it annexed or subdued. Beside these imperial titles, Caesar of Rome was among the important titles claimed by Sultan Mehmed II after the conquest of Constantinople.
