Vallée De Joux
The Vallée de Joux is a valley of the Jura Mountains mainly in the Swiss Canton of Vaud. The valley also continues into France ( Jura département) at its higher, southwestern, end. Located north of Geneva and northwest of Lausanne, its mean elevation is over . There are three Swiss lakes in the ''Vallée de Joux'': the lac de Joux (around long), the lac Brenet and Lake Ter. The French border runs along the northern edge of the valley until, about west of the lac de Joux, the base of the valley becomes French territory. The valley then continues to climb gently towards the Lac des Rousses and the ski resort of Les Rousses. The NE-SW orientation, and the altitude combine to make for an especially cold winter climate. Orbe (river)
The Orbe (french: L'Orbe) is a river of the Rhine basin. It starts in France and flows to Switzerland where it forms the river Thielle at its confluence with the river Talent. Not to be mistaken with the Orbe, which is a tributary of the Arrats. Geography The Orbe has its source near Rousses, forms the lac des Rousses before flowing down to lac de Joux in canton of Vaud, Switzerland. It disappears naturally underground for a stretch of 4 km, to reappear in Vallorbe - where a special ecotourism site was created, the Vallorbe Caves (note, to re-edit - http://www.grottesdevallorbe.ch/). This height approximately corresponds to the transition between the foothill zone and the montane zone, in the Alps and in the Jura Mountains. Lakes can be found up to elevations of almost 3000 metres, where is the climatic snow line in the Alps.
