Labro, Lazio
Labro is a (municipality) in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region of Latium, located about northeast of Rome and about northwest of Rieti. It is a touristic destination and has been awarded with the orange flag. Labro borders the following municipalities: Arrone, Colli sul Velino, Morro Reatino, Terni. History Labro was founded between the 9th and 10th century; the first lord of Labro was sworn by Otto I in the year 956. During the middle ages, Labro was a possession of the city of Rieti and served as a stronghold to secure the border with the city of Spoleto. For this reason, Labro was involved in a number of battles, in particular with the bordering castle of Luco which was controlled by Spoleto. Terni–Sulmona Railway
The Terni–Sulmona railway is a regional railway line in central Italy, managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. It links three regions, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo, and three provincial capitals: Terni, Rieti and L'Aquila. Together with the Sulmona–Isernia railway it forms a north–south corridor through the Apennines in central Italy. Its route is the result of two unfinished railways that had to meet in Rieti: the Pescara–L'Aquila–Rome line, and the Terni– Avezzano–Roccasecca line. Art Monastery
The Art Monastery is an American non-profit organization based in Hawi, Hawai'i and founded in San Francisco, California (with previous locations in Calvi dell'Umbria, Labro, Caramanico Terme, and Lecce, Italy; and Springfield, Vermont). The Art Monastery Project was founded by American artistSuiko Betsy McCalland Christopher Fülling in 2007 with the purpose of converting an historic Italian monastery into an international art production center in cooperation with the community that hosts it. A pilot project was created at the Casale Santa Brigida in Calvi dell’Umbria now known as countryhouse Vista sull'oliveto. Santa Maria Maggiore is a Roman Catholic church located in the town of Labro, in the province of Rieti, region of Lazio, Italy. History A church at the site has been documented since 1398. At the end of the 15th century, at the site of a castle tower, a church and chapel were built at this site. The baptistry and bell tower are somewhat separate from the church. Piediluco
Lago di Piediluco is a lake that straddles the border between the Province of Terni, Umbria, Italy and the Province of Rieti, Lazio. At an elevation of 375 m, its surface area is 1.58 km². The lake is formed by the inflow of water from three sources: the Rio Fuscello, the Velino river and the Nera river. The flow from the Rio Fuscello is naturally occurring, while the flows from the Nera and Velino rivers are each influenced in some part due to man-made means. A partial diversion of the Nera in the Nera river valley (Valnerina) conducts the flow via a lengthy aqueduct and canal system built in the 1920s during the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini, entering the lake at the north-western end of the village of Piediluco, near the entrance to the town from the "Via Ternana" SS79 motorway. Spoleto
Spoleto (, also , , ; la, Spoletum) is an ancient city in the Italian province of Perugia in east-central Umbria on a foothill of the Apennines. It is S. of Trevi, N. of Terni, SE of Perugia; SE of Florence; and N of Rome. History Spoleto was situated on the eastern branch of the Via Flaminia, which forked into two roads at Narni and rejoined at ''Forum Flaminii'', near Foligno. Otto I (23 November 912 – 7 May 973), traditionally known as Otto the Great (german: Otto der Große, it, Ottone il Grande), was East Francia, East Frankish king from 936 and Holy Roman Emperor from 962 until his death in 973.
