Labelcode
Labelcode also known as Label Code is a unique 4-digit or 5-digit music label identification code that is assigned by (GVL), Germany. Since 2017, Labelcode is no longer mandatory. Labelcode is still used in some occasions, for example, CD publishing. Ways to get a Labelcode A Labelcode is only issued by GVL after it has been published for the first time. However, there are several ways to get an LC. #The simplest is the way described below: Takeover of the LC of the Record press, press shop (keyword: assignment of ancillary rights). #After pressing a CD, for example, an application for an LC including a copy of the recordings is sent to GVL. After processing and issuing the LC, the GVL sends the sticker with the LC to the applicant. Only from the second production onwards can the LC be used permanently. #In consultation with the GVL, members of the Association of German Musicians (VDM) can receive their own label code via the VDM. International Standard Recording Code
The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is an international standard code for uniquely identifying sound recordings and music video recordings. The code was developed by the recording industry in conjunction with the ISO technical committee 46, subcommittee 9 (TC 46/SC 9), which codified the standard as ISO 3901 in 1986, and updated it in 2001. An ISRC identifies a particular ''recording'', not the work (composition and lyrical content) itself. Therefore, different recordings, edits, and remixes of the same work should each have their own ISRC. Works are identified by ISWC. Recordings remastered or revised in other ways are usually assigned a new ISRC. History ISO 3901 was completed in 1986. Record Press
A record press is a machine for manufacturing vinyl records. It is essentially a hydraulic press fitted with thin nickel stampers which are negative impressions of a master disc. Labels and a pre-heated vinyl patty (or "biscuit") are placed in a heated mold cavity. Two stampers are used, one for each of side of the disc. The record press closes under a pressure of about 150 tons. The process of compression molding forces the hot vinyl to fill the grooves in the stampers, and take the form of the finished record. Vacuum molding In the mid-1960s, Emory Cook developed a system of record forming wherein the mold pressure was replaced by a vacuum. Catalog Number (music)
A catalog number is an identification number assigned to a music release by a record label. Catalog numbers on music releases goes back to the early 20th century, around the same time as the 10" shellac records. Many catalog numbers were similar to the last digits of the barcode of the release, and were often followed by a format code, a single digit defining the physical music format the recording is pressed on.
