Labe (hamlet)
Labe (German: Elbe) is a hamlet in Šumperk District, Olomouc Region, Czech Republic. It was founded by German settlers from Vrchlabí Vrchlabí (; german: Hohenelbe, la, Albipolis) is a town in Trutnov District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 12,000 inhabitants. It lies at the foot of the Giant Mountains on the river Elbe. The town centre with ... in 1521. Vrchlabí is called ''Hohen Elbe'' in German, thus the hamlet is obviously named after settlers' hometown. The Czech name is a consequence of bad understanding of the name's evolution. Officials believed the name was derived from the Elbe River, which is called ''Labe'' in Czech. The village was administered by the council of Nové Losiny for most of modern history. Labe has been administered by council of Jindřichov since 1976. In 1945, the village population was expelled and was not fully repopulated. Only 8 houses remain. Labé ( Pular 𞤆𞤵𞤤𞤢𞤪:𞤂𞤢𞤦𞤫) is the main city and administrative capital of the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea. It has a population of about 200,000. It is the second largest city in the country after the capital Conakry in term of economic importance. Labé is situated some northeast of Conakry close to the geographic centre of Guinea. History The city was founded around 1755 by Karamoko Alpha mo Labé, a Muslim religious leader who introduced Islam in the region in the 18th century and who also founded a theocratic state in Fouta Djallon. The city was the capital of the Diwal/province of Labe prior to French colonisation. It was home to Muslim leaders and scholars who resisted colonisation, such as Alpha Yaya Diallo. Louise Labé
Louise Charlin Perrin Labé, ( 1524 – 25 April 1566), also identified as La Belle Cordière (The Beautiful Ropemaker), was a feminist French poet of the Renaissance born in Lyon, the daughter of wealthy ropemaker Pierre Charly and his second wife, Etiennette Roybet. Biography Louise Labé was born in Lyon, into a family of ropemakers, surgeons, and butchers. Her father, Pierre Charly, was a successful ropemaker, who started a business on rue de l'Arbre sec, at the base of Saint Sébastien Hill in Lyon. When his first wife died in 1515, he married Etiennette Roybet, and had five children: Barthélemy, Francois, Mathieu, Claudine, and Louise. It is presumed that Louise Labé was born at some point between her father's wedding in 1516 and her mother's death in 1523. Records show that Labé's father, despite his humble beginnings, eventually achieved some social prestige.
