''La trovatella di Pompei'' (i.e. "The foundling of Pompei") is a 1957 Italian melodrama film co-written and directed by Giacomo Gentilomo and starring Massimo Girotti and Alessandra Panaro. Plot Pompeii. Maria, is a girl raised by the loving care of a poor couple but without knowing anything about her real parents. She is in love with Giorgio, a boy from a good family, who however has also aroused the interest of the intriguing Edvige who frequents bad company including jealous Roberto. Edvige wants to meet Giorgio with the intention of telling him that Maria is a foundling therefore not worthy to be by his side but later has a clash with Roberto who hits her and kills her. There would be a witness but Roberto, threatening him with death, succeeds in obtaining his silence, the blame therefore falls on Maria, who arrived shortly after the crime attracted by the noises with the intention of bringing help. Giacomo Gentilomo
Giacomo Gentilomo (5 April 1909 – 16 April 2001) was an Italian film director and painter. Biography Born in Trieste, at very young age Gentilomo moved to Rome, where at 21 years old he entered the cinema industry, working as a script survivor and an assistant director. Active between 1933 and 1937 as a film editor, in 1939 he debuted as a director with ''Il Carnevale di Venezia''. In 1945 his film ''O sole mio'' got critical acclaim, but later his career was mainly devoted to genre films, and failed to achieve significant critical interest. Dissatisfied with cinema, in the mid-1960s Gentilomo decided to abandon films and to fulfill his passion for painting. Wandisa Guida (born 21 April 1935) is an Italian former film, stage and television actress. She was sometimes credited as Wandisa Leigh. Born in Trani, Guida took part in the Miss Italia beauty contest in 1954, winning the title of Miss Cinema.
