Carmine Gallone
Carmine Gallone (10 September 1885 – 11 March 1973) was an early Italian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, who was also controversial for his works of pro-Fascist propaganda and historical revisionism. Considered one of Italian cinema's leading early directors, he directed over 120 films in his fifty-year career between 1913 and 1963. Life and career Carmine Gallone was born as Carmelo Camillo Gallone on 10 September 1885 in Taggia (in the province of Imperia), but grew up in Naples. Stefan Żeromski
Stefan Żeromski ( ; 14 October 1864 – 20 November 1925) was a Polish novelist and dramatist belonging to the Young Poland movement at the turn of the 20th century. He was called the "conscience of Polish literature". He also wrote under the pen names Maurycy Zych, Józef Katerla, and Stefan Iksmoreż. He was nominated four times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Life Stefan Żeromski was born on 14 October 1864 at Strawczyn, near Kielce. On 2 September 1892, he married a widow, Oktawia Rodkiewiczowa, ''née'' Radziwiłłowiczówna, whom he had met at a spa in Nałęczów, co-owned by her stepfather. Soava Gallone, née Stanisława Winawerówna (1880 – 30 May 1957) was a Polish and later Italian film actress who appeared in early Italian cinema. She appeared in more than 40 films between 1913 and 1931. She was the wife of film director Carmine Gallone. Her mother was the Polish writer Regina Winawer. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Guido Trento (June 21, 1892 – July 31, 1957) was an Italian stage and film actor. Career Trento appeared in over seventy films during his career, mainly in Italy during the silent era. In 1922 he appeared in Fox's Italian-shot historical epic '' Nero'' (1922). He followed it up with later roles for Fox such as '' Street Angel'' (1928).Holston p.64 He emigrated to the United States, where he settled and died in 1957. His career largely tapered out following the arrival of sound. His final screen appearance was in RKO Radio Pictures's B movie '' Secrets of the French Police'' (1932).
