La Spiaggia
''The Beach'' (Italian: ''La spiaggia'') also internationally released as ''Riviera'' and ''The Boarder'') is a 1954 French-Italian comedy drama film directed by Alberto Lattuada and starring Martine Carol, Raf Vallone and Mario Carotenuto. In 2008 the film was selected to enter the list of the 100 Italian films to be saved. The film's sets were designed by the art director Dario Cecchi. It was shot at the Titanus Studios in Rome and on location around Savona in Liguria. Plot At a luxury resort on the Italian coast, a prostitute takes her young daughter for a vacation but tries to conceal her true profession from her fellow guests. She is courted by the local mayor, before her past is exposed to the gossipy society of the resort. Alberto Lattuada
Alberto Lattuada (; 13 November 1914 – 3 July 2005) was an Italian film director. Career Lattuada was born in Vaprio d'Adda, the son of composer Felice Lattuada. He was initially interested in literature, becoming, while still a student, a member of the editorial staff of the antifascist fortnightly ''Camminare...'' (1932) and part of the artists' group ''Corrente di Vita'' (1938). Before entering the film industry, Lattuada's father made him complete his studies as an architect even though he recognized his desire to make movies. He began his film career as a screenwriter and assistant director on Mario Soldati's '' Piccolo mondo antico'' ("Old-Fashioned World", 1940). Titanus Studios
Titanus is an Italian film production company, founded in 1904 by Gustavo Lombardo (1885–1951). The company's headquarters are located at 28 Via Sommacampagna, Rome and its studios on the Via Tiburtina, 13 km from the centre of Rome. Lombardo ran the studios until his death in 1951. His son, Goffredo Lombardo (1920–2005) and later his grandson, Guido Lombardo have continued to run the company. The company has been responsible for hundreds of Italian productions. Titanus made many peplum films and comedies featuring Totò and Franco and Ciccio. Ennio Girolami
Enio Girolami (14 January 1935 – 16 February 2013), sometimes credited as Thomas Moore, was an Italian film and television actor. Born in Rome, son of director Marino Girolami and brother of director Enzo G. Castellari, Girolami made his film debut at 18 with a role of weight in ''Fratelli d'Italia'' by Fausto Saraceni. He then appeared in many films, sometimes as main actor, working among others with Alberto Lattuada, Federico Fellini, Mauro Bolognini and Giuseppe De Santis. Marco Ferreri
Marco Ferreri (11 May 1928 – 9 May 1997) was an Italian film director, screenwriter and actor, who began his career in the 1950s directing three films in Spain, followed by 24 Italian films before his death in 1997. He is considered one of the greatest European cinematic provocateurs of his time and had a constant presence in prestigious festival circuit - including eight films in competition in Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Bear win in 1991 Berlin Film Festival. Rosy Mazzacurati (born in 1938) is an Italian former film and stage actress. Life and career Born in Ferrara, Mazzacurati was the daughter of the sculptor and painter Renato Marino Mazzacurati. Eager to embark on an acting career, at young age she moved to Rome, where she enrolled the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, graduating in 1953. Valeria Moriconi (''née'' Abbruzzetti; November 15, 1931 – June 15, 2005) was an Italian actress who appeared both in movies and on stage. Carlo Romano (8 May 1908 – 16 October 1975) was an Italian actor, voice actor and screenwriter.
