La Rivière, Manitoba
La Rivière is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in Manitoba, Canada. It is located 11 km west of the town of Manitou on Highway 3. It is located in the Municipality of Pembina. La Riviere was founded 1886 by Metis Franco-Manitobans, however it is predominantly English speaking. It has a post office, credit union, a five-lift ski hill, a construction company, and a seasonal drive-in restaurant. It has a full service campground at the edge of the community that backs onto the Pembina River. La Riviere was previously home to Hamm-tone Guitars and Mandolins and the Pembina Valley Guitar Building Course. According to ''The Municipal Act'', a local urban district is a locality wholly within a rural municipality that "has at least 250 residents and a population density of at least 400 residents per square kilometre or such other density as the minister may in a specific case consider sufficient for the type and level of services to be provided in the local urban district". The Municipality of Pembina is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History The municipality was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Pembina and the Town of Manitou. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728.
