''La Profecía de Urayoán'' is the fourth album from Puerto Rican folk singer Roy Brown. The album was released by Disco Libre in 1976. It is the second album to feature collaborations between Brown and Cuban singer/songwriter Silvio Rodríguez. on Cancioneros Recording The long-playing album La Profética de Urayoán was recorded in the studios of the EGREM in Havana in September 1975 and published on vinyl under the label Free Disk. Roy Brown Ramírez (born July 18, 1945 in Orlando, Florida) is a Puerto Rican musician and singer.Liner notes of "Basta Ya... Revolución" (Disco Libre) Early years Brown's father was an American United States Navy, naval officer and his mother a native of Puerto Rican citizenship, Puerto Rico. Brown was raised during turbulent times in the United States. Among the important issues of those days were racism, the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. Most of these events went on to form an important part in his ideals and his way of thinking. In the late-1960s, Brown enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico. He enjoyed writing poems and while he was a student, he became actively involved in groups against the Vietnam War, poor living conditions, and especially in favor of the independence movement of Puerto Rico. ''Distancias'' is the fifth album from Puerto Rican folk singer Roy Brown. The album was released by Disco Libre in 1977. It is composed of songs based on poems from Juan Antonio Corretjer. Recording ''Distancias'' was recorded at Tony Croatto's home studio in Caimito, San Juan from April to June 1976. The album consists of seven songs, all of them based on poems from Juan Antonio Corretjer, including a second version of "En la vida todo es ir". Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (born 29 November 1946) is a Cuban musician, and leader of the Nueva Trova movement. Juan Antonio Corretjer Montes (March 3, 1908 – January 19, 1985) was a Puerto Rican poet, journalist and pro-independence political activist opposing United States rule in Puerto Rico. Early years Corretjer (birth name: Juan Antonio Corretjer Montes) was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, into a politically active pro-independence family. His parents were Diego Corretjer Hernández and María Brígida Montes González. His father and uncles were involved in the "Ciales Uprising" of August 13, 1898, against the United States occupation. As a lad, he would often accompany his father and uncles to political rallies. He received his primary and secondary education in his hometown. Juan Gelman (3 May 1930 – 14 January 2014) was an Argentine poet. He published more than twenty books of poetry between 1956 and his death in early 2014. The Puerto Rican cuatro (Spanish: cuatro puertorriqueño) is the national instrument of Puerto Rico. It belongs to the lute family of string instruments, and is guitar-like in function, but with a shape closer to that of the violin.
