La Prevoyante
La Prevoyante (1970–1974) was a Canadian-bred thoroughbred race horse elected to the Racing Halls of Fame in the United States and Canada. Background La Prevoyante was bred and owned by Jean-Louis Lévesque. Her sire was Buckpasser, a son of Tom Fool. Racing career 1972: two-year-old season Racing in the United States at age two, La Prevoyante went undefeated, winning all 12 starts under jockey John LeBlanc en route to the 1972 Eclipse Award as American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly and the Sovereign Award as the Canadian Horse of the Year. In a rare occurrence, two two-year-olds topped the balloting for 1972 American Horse of the Year honours with Secretariat edging out La Prevoyante. Buckpasser
Buckpasser (1963–1978) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who was the 1966 Horse of the Year. His other achievements include 1965 Champion Two-Year-Old, 1966 Champion Three-Year-Old, 1966 Champion Handicap Horse, and 1967 Champion Handicap Horse. He was also the leading broodmare sire in 1983, 1984, and 1989. Background Buckpasser was a bay colt that was bred and owned by Ogden Phipps and foaled at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. He was by the Horse of the Year-winner Tom Fool, and his dam was the stakes-winning mare Busanda, by the Triple Crown-winner War Admiral. Busanda's second dam was the " blue hen" broodmare La Troienne (FR). Buckpasser was a half-brother to several other horses that included the stakes-winners Bupers (won $221,688) and Bureaucracy ($156,635). American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly
The American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly is an American Thoroughbred horse racing honor awarded annually to a female horse in Thoroughbred flat racing. It became part of the Eclipse Awards program in 1971. The award originated in 1936 when both the ''Daily Racing Form'' (DRF) and Turf and Sports Digest (TSD) magazine began naming an annual champion. Starting in 1950, the Thoroughbred Racing Associations (TRA) began naming its own champion. The following list provides the name of the horses chosen by both of these organizations. There were several disagreements, with more than one champion being recognized on seven occasions. The ''Daily Racing Form'', the Thoroughbred Racing Associations, and the National Turf Writers Association all joined forces in 1971 to create the Eclipse Award. The La Prevoyante Stakes, until 2019 the La Prevoyante Handicap, is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida. The race is open to fillies and mares, age four and up, willing to race one and one-half miles on turf. The Grade III race currently carries a purse of $200,000. The La Prevoyante Handicap is named for the Hall of Fame filly La Prevoyante, who collapsed and died in the unsaddling area at Calder Race Course after a December 28, 1974 race. Due to track scheduling changes, the race was run twice in 2011; once in January and again in December. First run in 1976, there was no race the following year but it returned permanently in 1978. The La Prevoyante Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race run annually in mid September at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. An Ontario Sire Stakes, it is a restricted race for three-year-old fillies. It is contested over a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles (8.5 furlongs) on all-weather track and currently carries a purse of $125,000. Inaugurated in 1975, it was raced at a distance of seven furlongs until 1979 when it was modified to a distance of one mile. Beginning in 2018, it was run at miles on the all-weather track. For 1977 only, the race was run on dirt and in 1979 it was run in two divisions. National Museum Of Racing And Hall Of Fame
The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame was founded in 1950 in Saratoga Springs, New York, to honor the achievements of American Thoroughbred race horses, jockeys, and trainers. In 1955, the museum moved to its current location on Union Avenue near Saratoga Race Course, at which time inductions into the hall of fame began. Each spring, following the tabulation of the final votes, the announcement of new inductees is made, usually during Kentucky Derby Week in early May. The actual inductions are held in mid-August during the Saratoga race meeting. The Hall of Fame's nominating committee selects eight to ten candidates from among the four Contemporary categories (male horse, female horse, jockey and trainer) to be presented to the voters.
