La Poste (yacht)
''La Poste'' is a sailing boat designed by Bruce Farr and built for the French postal service, who participated in different yacht races led by different captains, Daniel Mallé and Éric Tabarly who replaced Daniel Malle as skipper after the second leg in the Whitbread Round the World Race. The crew of La Poste was composed by postal service employees. During Leg 2 of the race while La Poste was leading, the team decided to turn around to answer a distress signal from another boat, '' Brooksfield'', sailing into 50-knot winds. In 2012 La poste participated in the Barcolana regatta with a team composed by member of Mascalzone Latino and 8 boys and girls with Down Syndrome..The documentary "The wind force", directed by Emilia Ricasoli and Alessio Muzi and aired on the Italian broadcaster La7, tells the team's preparation and the subsequent participation in the regatta. A maxi yacht usually refers to a racing yacht of at least in length. Origin The term ''maxi'' originated with the International Offshore Rule (IOR) rating system, which in the 1970s and 1980s measured offshore racing yachts and applied a single-number rating to each boat. Mascalzone Latino is a yacht racing team that competes in America's Cup style sailing out of the yacht club Club Nautico di Roma. 2007 Known as Mascalzone Latino-Capitalia Team and at that time also representing Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, the team first competed at the Louis Vuitton Cup 2007, the challenger series held prior to the 2007 America's Cup. The Barcolana (slo.: Barkovljanka) is a historic international sailing regatta organized by the yacht club Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano. It takes place every year in the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October. The Barcolana is one of the most crowded regattas in the world. Bruce Farr
Bruce Kenneth Farr (born 1949 in Auckland) is a New Zealand designer of racing and cruising yachts. Farrdesigned boats have won, challenged for, or placed highly in the Whitbread Round the World Race, America's Cup, and Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, among others. Farr's services to yacht design were recognised in the 1990 Queen's Birthday Honours, when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Whitbread Round The World Race
The Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three or four years since 1973. Originally named the Whitbread Round the World Race after its initiating sponsor, British brewing company Whitbread, in 2001 it became the Volvo Ocean Race after Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Group, Volvo took up the sponsorship, and in 2019 it was renamed The Ocean Race.
