La Platosa mine is a silver mine located at Bermejillo in the Mapimí Municipality of Durango state, Mexico owned by the Canadian company Excellon Resources. Description La Platosa is a silver mine that ranks among Mexico's highest grade silver mines. The mine is located in near La Sierrita, on land owned by the Ejido La Sierrita community. History The mine's owners have been accused of failing to build a water treatment plant by the Ejido La Sierrita community. The community submitted two complaints to the Government of Canada including one to the Extractive Sector CSR Counsellor The Office of the Extractive Sector CSR Counsellor was established in 2009 as part of the Government of Canada’s CSR Strategy for the International Extractive Sector. Mapimí Municipality
Mapimí is one of the 39 municipalities of Durango, in north-western Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Mapimí. The municipality covers an area of 7,126.7 km². In 2010, the municipality had a total population of 25,137, up from 22,940 in 2005. In 2010, the town of Mapimí had a population of 5,623. Other than the town of Mapimí, the municipality had 283 localities, the largest of which (with 2010 populations in parentheses) were: Bermejillo (9,149) and Ceballos (3,730), classified as urban. Extractive Sector CSR Counsellor
The Office of the Extractive Sector CSR Counsellor was established in 2009 as part of the Government of Canada’s CSR Strategy for the International Extractive Sector. The mandate of the Counsellor is defined by an Order in Council. Marketa Evans held the position until she resigned in October 2013. In March 2015, Jeffrey Davidson was appointed as Counsellor.
