La Otra (film)
''La Otra'' ("The Other" (feminine)), sometimes screened with the title ''The Other One'', is a 1945 Mexican drama film directed by Roberto Gavaldón and starring Dolores del Río. The film was remade in 1964 as '' Dead Ringer'', with Bette Davis. Plot At a Christmas party, María Méndez ( Dolores del Río) learns that Magdalena, her twin sister, has a comfortable lifestyle. Maria kills her sister and assumes her identity and lifestyle. However, her life becomes complicated by her late sister's sleazy boyfriend Fernando (Víctor Junco), and by Roberto (Agustín Irusta), who loved the "dead" María. Production It was shot at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City. The 96-page script was originally titled "The Other Woman" by José Revueltas, Jack Wagner and Roberto Gavaldón from a story by Ryan James. The Paul Kohler Agency represented the screenwriters. Roberto Gavaldón
Roberto Gavaldón (June 7, 1909 in Jiménez, Chihuahua – September 4, 1986 in Mexico City) was a Mexican film director. Eight of Gavaldón's films were featured on the list 100 Best Movies of the Cinema of Mexico. His 1958 film ''Ash Wednesday'' was entered into the 8th Berlin International Film Festival and his 1959 film ''Beyond All Limits'' was entered into the following years festival. His 1960 film '' Macario'' was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Bette Davis
Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (; April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989) was an American actress with a career spanning more than 50 years and 100 acting credits. She was noted for playing unsympathetic, sardonic characters, and was famous for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical films, suspense horror, and occasional comedies, although her greater successes were in romantic dramas. Churubusco Studios
Estudios Churubusco is one of the oldest and largest movie studios in Mexico. It is located in the Churubusco neighborhood of Mexico City. History It was inaugurated in 1945 after a 1943 agreement between RKO and Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta (of Televisa). In 1950 it was acquired by the government of Mexico and merged with Estudios y Laboratorios Azteca to form Estudios Churubusco Azteca. Since 1958 it has been controlled by the government of Mexico.
