Death Of Caesar
Julius Caesar, the Roman dictator, was assassinated on the Ides of March (15 March) 44 BC by a group of senators during a Senate session at the Curia of Pompey, located within the Theatre of Pompey in Rome. The conspirators, numbering between 60 and 70 individuals and led by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus, and Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus, stabbed Caesar approximately 23 times. They justified the act as a preemptive defense of the Roman Republic, asserting that Caesar's accumulation of lifelong political authority—including his perpetual dictatorship and other honors—threatened republican traditions. The assassination failed to achieve its immediate objective of restoring the Republic's institutions. Instead, it precipitated Caesar's posthumous deification, triggered the Liberators' civil war (43–42 BC) between his supporters and the conspirators, and contributed to the collapse of the Republic. These events ultimately culminated in the rise of the Rom ...

The Death Of Caesar (Gérôme)
''The Death of Caesar'' () is an 1867 painting by the French artist Jean-Léon Gérôme. It depicts the moment after the assassination of Julius Caesar, when the jubilant conspirators are walking away from Caesar's dead body at the Theatre of Pompey, on the Ides of March (March 15), 44 BC. The painting is kept at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.Characteristically, Gérôme has depicted not the incident itself, but its immediate aftermath. The illusion of reality that Gérôme imparted to his paintings with his smooth, polished technique led one critic to comment, "If photography had existed in Caesar's day, one could believe that the picture was painted from a photograph taken on the spot at the very moment of the catastrophe." Gérôme's depiction of the aftermath of violence can also be seen in '' The Execution of Marshal Ney'', ''The Duel After the Masquerade'', and ''Jerusalem''. Exhibitions The Walters indicates that the work has been included in the following ...

The Death Of Julius Caesar (Camuccini)
''La mort de Cèsar'' or ''The Death of Julius Caesar'' is an 1806 painting by Vincenzo Camuccini depicting the assassination of Julius Caesar. The painting was originally commissioned in 1793 by Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol, for whom he had already produced a copy of Raphael's '' Deposition''. He completed a cartoon for the work in 1793 which was favourably received by art critics in Rome at the time. However, when he produced a first version of the painting in 1796, it was less well-received, and so he destroyed it and started again from scratch, completing the current version in 1806. The Earl had died in 1803 and his heirs refused to pay for the work, so Camuccini instead sold it to Joachim Murat in 1807. After Murat's fall, it was acquired by Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies and relocated to the Palazzo Reale in Naples. In 1864, it entered its present home, the National Museum of Capodimonte, in Naples Naples ( ; ; ) is the Regions of Italy, regional capital ...

La Morte Di Cesare
''La morte di Cesare'' ('The Death of Caesar') is an ''opera seria'' in three acts by Francesco Bianchi. The libretto was by Gaetano Sertor, after Shakespeare's play ''Julius Caesar''. ''La morte di Cesare'' was one of six texts that Sertor wrote for Bianchi, influencing a popular series of Venetian 'morte' operas in the 1790s. While the murder itself was not shown on the stage, the audience were left with the body of Caesar conspicuously in view during the closing scenes. As with other Bianchi operas, there were innovations: the chorus participated actively in the drama, there was a ballet and a pantomime, a duet for two men, and a final oath scene (''giuramento''), besides the basically unconventional tragic ending.McClymonds, Marita P (1992), 'Sertor, Gaetano' in ''The New Grove Dictionary of Opera'' vol 4 p 328 Performance history The opera was first performed at the Teatro San Samuele in Venice on 27 December 1788. Roles Synopsis The subject of the opera is the conspi ...
