''La matassa'' ("''The skein''") is a 2009 Italian comedy film written and directed by Giambattista Avellino and by Ficarra e Picone. The film was a box office success, ranking first for two weeks at the Italian box office and grossing $10,007,765. Plot summary The movie opens with Paolo ( Picone), the owner of ''Albergo Geraci'', standing on the roof and seeming like he's about to jump off as the firefighters and the local priest try to convince him to come down. A mysterious man (Claudio Gioè) climbs on a balcony and reveals he has to show him something important. He mentions that one of the papers is real and the others are ''what aolo'scousin gave him''. Meanwhile, Gaetano ( Ficarra), Paolo's cousin, rushes to the hotel to save his cousin. He sees the mysterious man, who taunts him, and seems perturbed. He walks in and Paolo tells him off. Giambattista Avellino
Giambattista Avellino (born 18 November 1957) is an Italian director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Livorno, Avellino started his career as a comic book writer, collaborating with the magazines '' Skorpio'' and '' Lanciostory''. He debuted as a screenwriter in 1991, for the Aldo Lado's TV-miniseries ''La stella del parco''. After an intense career on television, Avellino signed his first screenplay for a theatrically released film in 2002, for the Ficarra e Picone's vehicle '' Nati stanchi''. His collaboration with the Sicilian comedy duo continued with ''Il 7 e l'8'' and '' La matassa'', both which they co-directed. Giuseppe Caruso (12 October 1934 – 7 March 2019), best known as Pino Caruso, was an Italian actor, author and television personality. Life and career Caruso was born in Palermo, Sicily and debuted as dramatic stage actor in his home town in 1957. In 1965 he moved to Rome and entered the theater company " Il Bagaglino".
