Fresno County (), officially the County of Fresno, is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 1,008,654. Burrel (formerly, Burrell) is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Fresno County, California, Fresno County, California. It is located southwest of Fresno, California, Fresno, at an elevation of 203 feet (62 m). Burrel is located midway between California State Route 99 and Interstate 5. The place is named for Cuthbert Burrel, owner of a nearby ranch. In the 1850s and 1860s, nearby Elkhorn Station, California, Elkhorn Station functioned as a stage stop. A post office was established at Burrel in 1912, but was eventually shut down, with mail now routed through nearby Riverdale, California, Riverdale. Burrel's only school is Burrel Union Elementary, which is Kindergarten through 8th grades. Students in the district usually attend high school in Riverdale. El Camino Viejo a Los Ángeles ( en, the Old Road to Los Angeles), also known as El Camino Viejo and the Old Los Angeles Trail, was the oldest north-south trail in the interior of Spanish colonial Las Californias (1769–1822) and Mexican Alta California (1822–1848), present day California.
