La Lagune (horse)
La Lagune (1965 – after 1970) was a French-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She initially made an impression by winning the Prix de Condé in the autumn of 1965 and added to her reputation with an emphatic victory in the Prix Vanteaux in the following spring. She was then sent to England for the Epsom Oaks and justified her position as favourite, as she ran out a very easy five Horse length, length winner. She was unable to win again but ran well in defeat against very strong opposition before being retired at the end of the season. She had little chance to prove herself as a broodmare as she produced only one foal. Background Lagunette was an "immensely strong" looking bay mare with a broad white blaze (horse marking), blaze and four white sock (horse marking), socks bred near Bordeaux in France by the Marquis du Vivier. Val De Loir
Val de Loir (May 7, 1959 – October 30, 1974) was a French Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse who won important races in France including the Prix du Jockey Club, French Derby and was a Champion sire. Val de Loir stood at Haras de Sassy in Saint-Christophe-le-Jajolet in Lower Normandy. He sired the Prix du Jockey Club winner Val de l'Orne, the Prix Saint-Alary winner Comtesse de Loir, the Grand Prix de Paris winners Chaparral (horse), Chaparral (1969) and Tennyson (horse), Tennyson (1973), the 1968 Epsom Oaks winner, La Lagune (horse), La Lagune, the 1970 Gran Premio de Madrid winner, Ifniri, and the 1976 Irish Oaks and Prix Vermeille winner, Lagunette. Among his other offspring, Val de Loir was the damsire of 1981 Epsom Derby winner Shergar, the 1983 Epsom Oaks winner, Sun Princess (horse), Sun Princess, and Green Dancer, winner of the 1975 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, French 2,000 Guineas and the Leading sire in France in 1991.
