La Laguna (Los Llanos De Aridane)
La Laguna (also known until recently as Tajuya de abajo or La Laguna de Tajuya) is a town and neighbourhood of Los Llanos de Aridane, in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. It was significantly affected by a lava flow from the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption, which destroyed hundreds of houses in the town. History The town was also known as "Tajuya de abajo" or "La Laguna de Tajuya", with historical references going back to the 17th century. Description The town center is marked by the "Venta de Doña Rosario", a canopy named after a pond that formed nearby when it rained. The neighbourhood does not have many historic buildings; it is known more for the local agriculture, which has changed over the years from sugarcane, to tomato, to banana and avocado, with many small plots owned by locals. La Palma (, ), also known as ''La isla bonita'' () and officially San Miguel de La Palma, is the most north-westerly island of the Canary Islands, Spain. 2021 Cumbre Vieja Volcanic Eruption
An eruption at the Cumbre Vieja complex volcano, volcanic ridge, comprising the southern half of the Spain, Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, lasted from 19 September to 13 December 2021. It was the first volcanic eruption on the island since the Teneguía#1971 eruption, eruption of Teneguía in 1971. At 85 days, it is the longest known eruption of a volcano on La Palma. The eruption has caused the evacuation of around 7,000 people, and the lava flow has covered over 1000 Hectare, hectares. The lava flow is about 3.5 kilometre (2.3 mile) wide in its widest point, about 6.2 kilometre long (3.9 mile) and has reached the sea, destroying more than 3,000 buildings, cutting the coastal highway and forming a new peninsula.
