La Haute-Gaspésie () is a regional county municipality in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of eastern Quebec, Canada, on the Gaspé peninsula. The regional county municipality seat is in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. Prior to May 27, 2000, it was known as Denis-Riverin Regional County Municipality. Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (''french: municipalité régionale de comté, MRC'') is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Some local municipalities are outside any regional county municipality (''hors MRC''). This includes some municipalities within urban agglomerations and also some aboriginal lands, such as Indian reserves that are enclaves within the territory of an RCM but not juridically part of it. Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis, Quebec
Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis is a municipality in Quebec, Canada. Located in the administrative region of Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine and the regional county municipality of La Haute-Gaspésie, the municipality comprises the communities of Mont-Louis, Ruisseau-des-Olives, L'Anse-Pleureuse, Les Côtes-du-Portage and Gros-Morne. The municipality had a population of 1,118 as of the Canada 2011 Census. The eponymous Mount Louis is one of two prominent hills that line the Bay of Mont-Louis (the other being Mount Saint-Pierre). The hill was named after King Louis XIV of France. History The place was first inhabited by twelve families in 1697 and fifty-three in 1699, but was abandoned by 1702. Later that century, fishing businesses set up in the Mont-Louis Bay, east of the mouth of the Mont-Louis River. Sept-Rivières (French for "Seven-Rivers") is a regional county municipality of Quebec, Canada, in the Côte-Nord region. Its county seat is Sept-Îles. The census groups Sept-Rivières RCM with neighbouring Caniapiscau Regional County Municipality RCM into the single census division of Sept-Rivières—Caniapiscau. In the Canada 2011 Census, the combined population was 39,500. The population of Sept-Rivières RCM itself was 35,240, of whom the vast majority live in the city of Sept-Îles. Geography Sept-Rivières is located in the central part of Côte-Nord. It is bordered by the regional county municipalities of Manicouagan, Caniapiscau, and Minganie, as well as by the southwest corner of Labrador and by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. This is a list of the regional county municipalities (RCM or MRC) and equivalent territories (TE) in the province of Quebec, Canada. They are given along with their geographical codes as specified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, and the administrative regions to which they belong. RCMs are county-like units of government at the supralocal level. However, not all municipalities belong to an RCM. In order to use RCMs for statistical purposes, some municipalities (mostly Indian reserves) are viewed as belonging to RCMs they do not belong to legally. The possibly enlarged RCMs are called ''municipalités régionales de comté géographiques'' (MRCG) as opposed to the legal ones known as ''municipalités régionales de comté juridiques'' (MRCJ). Mont-Albert, Quebec
Mont-Albert is an unorganized territory in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of Quebec, Canada. The only population centre within the territory is Cap-Seize, located south of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts along Quebec Route 299. It was established circa 1940 as a forestry centre and named after the nearby Cap-Seize Creek, a tributary of the Sainte-Anne River. While the name literally means "Cape Sixteen", it is actually a transformation of the English word "capsize", the creek's original name. A post office operated there from 1946 to 1969. The ghost town of Saint-Octave-de-l'Avenir is about south-southeast of Cap-Chat, at an altitude of . It was formed in 1932 as part of the Vautrin Settlement Plan to encourage colonization of Gaspésie's interior and intended to bring relief during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
