La Habra High School
La Habra High School is a public co-educational high school located in the Orange County, California city of La Habra. Located between the Coyote Hills to the south and Puente Hills to the north, LHHS opened in 1954 and graduated its first class in 1956. It is a California Distinguished High School and has been nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School. The school is a member of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. LHHS absorbed a majority of the students from nearby Lowell High School when it closed in June 1980. Athletics La Habra's sports teams are known as the Highlanders and are members of the Freeway League in CIF Southern Section. La Habra (archaic spelling of ''La Abra'', ) is a city in the northwestern corner of Orange County, California, United States. In the 2010 census, the city had a population of 60,239. A related city, La Habra Heights, is located to the north of La Habra, and is in Los Angeles County. History Origin of name The name referred to the “Pass Through the Hills,” the natural pass through the hills to the north first discovered and used by Spanish explorers of the Portola expedition on July 30, 1769. In 1839, when the area was part of Alta California, vast herds of cattle and horses grazed over the hills and valleys of Southern California. Dan Owens
Daniel William Owens (born March 16, 1967) is a former American football defensive lineman. Professional career Owens played for the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons between 1990 and 1999 and amassed 33 career sacks. In his last season with the Lions, he started at defensive tackle. Darin W. Toohey is an American atmospheric scientist. He is a professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences and of environmental studies at the University of Colorado Boulder since 1999. Toohey's research addresses the role of trace gases and aerosols on Earth's climate, atmospheric oxidation, and air quality. He was a Jefferson Science Fellow at the United States Department of State, 2011-2012. Johnny "Chuck" Weatherspoon, Jr. (born July 31, 1968) is a former American football running back who played one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the ninth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. Weatherspoon played college football at the University of Houston. Jenny Louise Topping (born May 30, 1980) is an American, former collegiate four-time first team All-American, medal winning Olympian, retired professional All-Star softball player. Topping played college softball at Washington and Cal State Fullerton primarily as a catcher. She is best known for being a member of the United States women's national softball team at the 2004 Summer Olympics that won a gold medal.
