La Gloria, Veracruz
La Gloria is a town in the municipality of Perote in the Mexican state of Veracruz. As of the 2005 population survey, it had a population of 2,243 (1092 men and 1151 women). The town is located in Perote Valley and is surrounded by mountains. Its altitude of makes it one of the highest areas of the state of Veracruz. It is located to the southwest of Cofre de Perote, approximately from the city of Perote. It is connected to Perote by a small highway; there, the small highway intersects Federal Highway 140, which goes to Xalapa. Half of the town's population lives and works in Mexico City, located to the west, during the week. The town is located from the Granjas Carroll de Mexico farming operation, which raised nearly 1,000,000 pigs in 2008. Many residents have protested the pig farming operation. 2009 H1N1 Outbreak
The 2009 swine flu pandemic, caused by the H1N1 influenza virus and declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) from June 2009 to August 2010, is the third recent flu pandemic involving the H1N1 virus (the first being the 1918–1920 Spanish flu pandemic and the second being the 1977 Russian flu). The first two cases were discovered independently in the United States in April 2009. The virus appeared to be a new strain of H1N1 that resulted from a previous triple reassortment of bird, swine, and human flu viruses which further combined with a Eurasian pig flu virus, leading to the term "swine flu". Xalapa
Xalapa or Jalapa (, ), officially Xalapa-Enríquez (), is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz and the name of the surrounding municipality. In the 2005 census the city reported a population of 387,879 and the municipality of which it serves as municipal seat reported a population of 413,136. The municipality has an area of 118.45 km2. Xalapa lies near the geographic center of the state and is the second-largest city in the state after the city of Veracruz to the southeast. Cofre De Perote
Cofre de Perote, also known by its Nahuatl names Naupa-Tecutépetl (from ''Nāuhpa-Tēuctēpetl'') and Nauhcampatépetl, both meaning something like "Place of Four Mountains" or "Mountain of the Lord of Four Places", is an inactive volcano located in the Mexican state of Veracruz, at the point where the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, home to all of Mexico's highest peaks, joins the Sierra Madre Oriental. With an elevation of above sea level, Cofre de Perote is Mexico's eighth highest mountain summit. Cofre de Perote is a shield volcano, shaped very differently from the stratovolcanic Pico de Orizaba, which lies about to the southeast. A ''cofre'' is a coffer, and the name alludes to a volcanic outcropping on the shield which constitutes the peak of the mountain.
