La Barra
La Barra is a resort in the Maldonado Department of southeastern Uruguay. Location and geography The resort is located on Route 10, south of its junction with Ruta Interbalnearia. Its west coast is on the mouth of Arroyo Maldonado, while its south coast in on the Atlantic Ocean. It lies just across San Rafael - El Placer to the west, with which they are connected with the nearby bridge Puente de Barra de Maldonado, famous for its architecture. It borders the resort El Tesoro to the northwest and to the east a neighbourhood called "Barrio San Carlos", which lies just west of the resort Manantiales. Population In 2011 La Barra had a population of 339 permanent inhabitants and 1,210 dwellings. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. Museum Of The Sea (Uruguay)
The Museum of the Sea, opened in 1996, is a museum of natural history located in La Barra, in the department of Maldonado Department, Maldonado, Uruguay. It occupies about and is divided into four large halls, which are open to the public all year round. Overview The museum contains over 5,000 specimens of marine fauna, all of which are clearly labelled. Among these specimens are whale skeletons, sea urchins, starfish and turtle shells. In addition, there are old photographs and an old bathing machine used by women in the early days of the 20th century, as well as telescopes and blunderbusses of the period. There is also an exhibit about the most famous pirates. This huge collection of objects, exhibits, photographs and stories is the work of the museum's creator, Pablo Etchegaray. ''Nuestra'' is the debut studio album of the Venezuelan rock band La Vida Bohème, released in August 2010. Recorded and produced by Rudy Pagliuca, it is a free download on the website of the record label All of the Above. The album was nominated for "Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album" in the 54th Grammy Awards. The two singles from this album are "Radio Capital" and "Danz!". Background and Recording The album was recorded in Caracas in 2009, on fairly independent terms. Manantiales is a resort (''balneario'') in the Maldonado Department of southeastern Uruguay. In the Spanish language in the Americas, a manantial means spring. Maldonado Department
The Maldonado Department ( es, Departamento de Maldonado; ), with an area of and 164,300 inhabitants (2011), is located to the southeast of Uruguay. Its capital is Maldonado. Ruta Interbalnearia (which means Inter-resort Route) or Ruta Líber Seregni is a national route of Uruguay. It connects Montevideo with Punta del Este to the east along the coast. Route 10 is a national route of Uruguay. In 1983, it was assigned the name Juan Díaz de Solís, honouring the Spanish navigator.
