''The Yacht Isabel Arrived This Afternoon'' ( es, La Balandra Isabel llegó esta tarde) is a 1949 Venezuelan-Argentina, Argentine film directed by Carlos Hugo Christensen. It was shown at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival, where it also won for Best Cinematography. The film was part of an ultimately failed effort by the producer Luis Guillermo Villegas Blanco to establish a Venezuelan film industry during the era. Despite this, it is seen as marking the "true birth of Venezuelan cinema". For the film, Blanco brought in established film personnel and actors from Argentina and Mexico. Carlos Hugo Christensen (Santiago del Estero, 15 December 1914 – Rio de Janeiro, 30 November 1999) was an Argentina, Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer. He was of Danes, Danish descent through his paternal side. Christensen directed fifty-four feature films some of which are considered masterpieces of what is known as the Argentine golden era of cinema. ''Si Muero antes de despertar'' (''If I Should Die Before I Wake'') and ''No abras nunca esa puerta'' (''Never Open That Door''), were part of a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2016. Virginia Luque (born Violeta Mabel Domínguez; 4 October 1927 – 3 June 2014) was an Argentine tango singer and film actress. She made nearly 20 appearances in tango films of Argentina between 1943 and 1976. Juan Vallejo Corona (February 7, 1934 – March 4, 2019) was a Mexican serial killer who was convicted of the murders of 25 migrant farm workers found buried in peach orchards along the Feather River in Sutter County, California in 1971. At the time, his crimes were among the most notorious in U.S. history. Until the discovery of Dean Corll's victims in 1973, he was the deadliest known American serial killer. Corona was convicted of 25 counts of first-degree murder in 1973. An appellate court overturned the conviction in 1978 on the basis of incompetent legal representation and granted him a new trial. In 1982, he was again found guilty on all counts. He served a life sentence in California State Prison, Corcoran, and died in 2019.
