LSU Tigers Gymnastics
The LSU Tigers women's gymnastics team represents Louisiana State University in NCAA Division I women's gymnastics. The team competes in the Southeastern Conference and is currently coached by Jay Clark, who is coaching in his fifth season. The Pete Maravich Assembly Center serves as the home arena for the team. History The gymnastics program was founded in 1970. In 2008, LSU made their first Super Six appearance. The team also made Super Six appearances in 2009, 2013 and 2014. In both the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the program made the Super Six and finished second at the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships. Also in 2017, LSU won back-to-back SEC Regular Season and SEC Championship Meet championships. In 2018, LSU again won back-to-back SEC Regular Season and SEC Championship Meet championships and reached the Super Six. The 2019 LSU Tigers women's gymnastics team will represent Louisiana State University in the 2019 NCAA Division I women's gymnastics season as members of the Southeastern Conference in their 44th season of collegiate competition. Pete Maravich
Peter Press Maravich ( ; June 22, 1947 – January 5, 1988), known by his nickname Pistol Pete, was an American professional basketball player. Maravich was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, and raised in the Carolinas. Maravich starred in college at Louisiana State University's Tigers basketball team; his father Press Maravich was the team's head coach. Pete Maravich is the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer with 3,667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game. All of his accomplishments were achieved before the adoption of the three-point line and shot clock, and despite being unable to play varsity as a freshman under then-NCAA rules. Pete Maravich Assembly Center (Baton Rouge, Louisiana)
The Pete Maravich Assembly Center is a 13,215-seat multi-purpose arena in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The arena opened in 1972. It was originally known as the LSU Assembly Center, but was renamed in honor of Pete Maravich, a Tiger basketball legend, shortly after his death in 1988. Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer signed an act to rename the building in Maravich's honor (under Louisiana law, no LSU or state owned building may be named after a living person). Maravich never played in the arena as a collegian but played in it as a member of the Atlanta Hawks in a preseason game. But his exploits while at LSU led the university to build a larger home for the basketball team, which languished for decades in the shadow of the school's football program. The 2014 NCAA women's gymnastics tournament was the 39th NCAA women's gymnastics tournament, the annual women's gymnastics championship contested by the teams of the member associations of NCAA. Sarah Finnegan
Sarah Finnegan (born November 14, 1996) is a retired American artistic gymnast and was an alternate for the 2012 Summer Olympics Gymnastics team. She competed for the Louisiana State Lady Tigers at the collegiate level, and was the 2017 and 2019 NCAA champion on uneven bars. She is the older sister of Aleah Finnegan. Personal life Finnegan was born on November 14, 1996 to Don and Linabelle Finnegan. She has three sisters, Hannah, Jennah, and Aleah, who are all also gymnasts. Finnegan was home schooled in order to train as an elite gymnast. Finnegan began gymnastics in 1999. Her father died in August 2019. In 2008, she and her family moved from St. Louis to Kansas City, Missouri so that she could train at GAGE. She said, "When I was at my old gym, I went to Regionals in 2008 and I saw GAGE there and I was like, 'Wow they're really good - I want to be like that,' so I talked with my parents and I've been there ever since." Rheagan Courville
Rheagan Reneé Courville (born March 26, 1993) is a former American collegiate gymnast for the LSU Lady Tigers gymnastics team. In 2013, she was the National Co-Champion on vault and was also SEC Gymnast of the Year, Central Region Gymnast of the Year, and Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) Gymnast of the Year. Once again in 2014, Rheagan was the National Co-Champion on vault, 2014 TAF Gymnast of the Year, SEC Gymnast of the Year, Central Region Co-Gymnast of the Year, 2014 NACGC/W Scholastic All-American. From 2012-2015 Rheagan Courville awarded SEC Academic Honor Roll. Has earned the most All America Honors in school history. She also helped the LSU Tigers finish 3rd in the team competition, the highest in school history. 2021 Region 8 Athlete Hall of Fame.
