L. N. Shastri
L. N. Shastri (also credited as Chaitanya; 30 August 1971 – 30 August 2017) was an Indian playback singer and music composer who primarily worked in Kannada cinema. Starting his career as a playback singer in the film ''Ajagajantara'' (1991), Shastri went on to sing for more than 3000 songs. Upon his friends' suggestion, he renamed himself as Chaitanya and composed music for over 25 films starting with ''Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neene'' (1998). However, he dropped the name due to the identity crisis for the film ''Bellary Naga'' (2009). His biggest hit song as a singer has been "Kolumande Jangamadevaru" from the film ''Janumada Jodi'' (1996) which gave him a career break and also fetched him the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. A playback singer, also known as a ghost singer, is a singer whose singing is pre-recorded for use in films. Playback singers record songs for soundtracks, and actors or actresses lip-sync the songs for cameras; the actual singer does not appear on the screen. South Asia South Asian films produced in the Indian subcontinent frequently use this technique. A majority of Indian films as well as Pakistani films typically include six or seven songs. ''Ekangi'' is a 2002 Indian Kannada-language film written, directed by and starring Ravichandran. He also wrote film's screenplay and composed the music. The film stars Ramya Krishna and Prakash Raj, with Vanitha Vasu, Sridhar, Ramesh Bhat and Sadhu Kokila in supporting roles. With the film, Ravichandran's reputation as an experimenter grew, having erected a house of 80 lakh exclusively for the film and spending heavily in filming song sequences, an unusual trend in Kannada cinema during the time. ''Upendra'' is a 1999 Indian Kannada-language psychological thriller film written and directed by Upendra. It starred Upendra, Raveena Tandon, Prema and Damini. The film explores three human emotions through the relationship between the main character and the three heroines. The songs of the film were written by Upendra and music was composed by Gurukiran. The movie has a cult fanbase.
