''L'Apothéose de Lully'', or ''Concert instrumental sous le titre d'Apothéose composé à la mémoire Immortelle de l'incomparable Monsieur de Lully'' (English: ''The Apotheosis of Lully'' or ''Instrumental concert with the title of an Apotheosis composed in the immortal memory of the incomparable Monsieur de Lully'') is a trio sonata composed by François Couperin. The piece was first published in 1725 in music, 1725, a year after the L'Apothéose de Corelli, Apotheosis of Corelli, to pay homage to Jean-Baptiste Lully. Background Lully, a master of French Baroque music and the father of the French overture, famously disavowed any Italian influence in French music of the period. David Evatt Tunley AM (born 1930) is an Australian musicologist and composer noted for his work on French music in the 17th and 18th centuries. Frederick Niecks (3 February 184524 June 1924) was a German musical scholar and author who resided in Scotland for most of his life. He is best remembered for his biographies of Frédéric Chopin and Robert Schumann. Roger Désormière () (13 September 1898 – 25 October 1963) was a French conductor. He was an enthusiastic champion of contemporary composers, but also conducted performances of early eighteenth century French music. Life and career Désormière was born in Vichy in 1898.
