Kåre Karlsson
Kåre Ingemar Karlsson (born 28 January 1924) is a Swedish former ski jumper. He was born in Løkken Verk in Norway, and grew up there with his ski jumper brothers Arthur and Evert Karlsson. They represented the sports club Løkken IF. Kåre Karlsson moved to Örnsköldsvik in his father's home country Sweden in 1944, and joined the club IF Friska Viljor Idrottsföreningen Friska Viljor is a Swedish ski jumping and Nordic combined club from Örnsköldsvik, Västernorrland County. Ski Jumping
Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Each jump is evaluated according to the distance traveled and the style performed. The distance score is related to the construction point (also known as the ''K-point''), which is a line drawn in the landing area and serves as a "target" for the competitors to reach. Løkken Verk
Løkken Verk (sometimes just called Løkken) is a village in the municipality of Orkland in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located south of the village of Svorkmo, east of the village of Bjørnli, and north of the municipal center of Meldal. The village has a population (2018) of 1,292 and a population density of . History Løkken Verk was originally populated when the Løkken Mine started mining for copper in 1654. The name comes from a farm at the place. The ore findings at Løkken Verk were originally about , and was the largest resource of copper sulfide in Norway. There was mining at Løkken from 1654 until 1987. Prior to 1845, the target was copper that was smelted, but in 1851 the mine transferred into mining pyrites that were exported, primarily as raw material for sulfuric acid. Evert Karlsson
Evert Gotthardt Karlsson (4 August 1920 – 23 May 1996) was a Swedish ski jumper who finished eleventh in the normal hill event at the 1948 Winter Olympics. He won the 1949 Swedish championships, and finished 11th at the 1950 World Ski Championships and 23rd at the 1954 World Ski Championships. Løkken IF
Løkken Idrettsforening is a Norwegian sports club from Løkken Verk, Sør-Trøndelag. It has sections for association football, speed skating and Nordic skiing. It was founded on 21 November 1896 as ''Meldalskogen SL''. The name was changed to ''Løkken IL'' on 30 March 1898. The name was changed to ''Løkken IF'' on 26 July 1947 as two clubs merged with Løkken IL. One club was ''IF Thor'', founded in 1918 and incorporating the short-lived ''Løkken AIL'' (1924–1926). ''IF Thor'' was a member of the Workers' Confederation of Sports, but later joined the Red Sport federation. When they did that, a new Workers' Confederation of Sports club was founded by the name ''SK Fjell'' in 1930. This was the third club to participate in the 1947 merger. Idrottsföreningen Friska Viljor is a Swedish ski jumping and Nordic combined club from Örnsköldsvik, Västernorrland County. It formerly offered more sports. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1950 took place during February 1–6, 1950 in Lake Placid, New York, United States and Rumford, Maine, United States. This was Lake Placid's second time hosting the championships after having done so at the 1932 Winter Olympics. It also marked the first time after World War II the event took place after the Winter Olympics in a non-Olympic year ( St. Moritz, Switzerland hosted the 1948 Winter Olympics two years earlier), the second time the world championships occurred outside Europe, the first time they had occurred outside Europe in a non-Olympic year, and the only time the United States has hosted the event in a non-Olympic year. Vidar Lindboe-Hansen
Vidar Lindboe-Hansen (6 May 1920 – 21 March 1976) was a Norwegian ski jumper and mining engineer. He was born in Kongsberg, and studied at the Norwegian Institute of Technology before settling in Løkken Verk as a mining engineer. Here he joined the local sports club Løkken IF. He finished tenth at the 1950 World Ski Championships. Three other Løkken IF members (former) participated here; Evert Karlsson, Kåre Karlsson and Arthur E. Tokle. Lindboe-Hansen also participated in the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1940, 1947, 1948 and 1949. His career was interrupted by the German occupation of Norway from 1940 to 1945, then in December 1950 he was badly injured when a mine explosion came out of control.
