Kyösti Kallio
Kyösti Kallio (; 10 April 1873 – 19 December 1940) was a Finnish politician of the Agrarian League who served as the fourth president of Finland from 1937–1940; his presidency included leading the country through the Winter War. He was the first President of Finland to resign and the only president to die in office. Ylivieska
Ylivieska () is a town and municipality of Northern Ostrobothnia region, Finland. It has a population of (), and it serves as the administrative centre for Kalajokilaakso and Pyhäjokilaakso, an area with a population of about 90,000 inhabitants. Ylivieska is also the commercial center of the Oulu South region, the southern part of the late Oulu province. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Santeri Alkio
Santeri Alkio (born Aleksander Filander; 17 June 1862 – 24 July 1930) was a Finnish politician, author and journalist. He is also considered to be the ideological father of Finnish Centre Party. History Alkio was born in Laihia; his parents were Juho and Maria (née Jakku) Filander. He married teacher Anna Augusta Falenius in 1896. Initially Santeri Alkio was active in the Young Finnish Party, but in the end decided it was too liberal for the farming population; urbanized parties did not, in his estimation, pay enough attention to the causes that were most important to farmers. To keep the agrarian folk from becoming ensnared by socialism, he founded the ''Etelä-Pohjanmaan Nuorsuomalainen Maalaisliitto'' ("Young-Finnish Countrymens' Union of Southern Ostrobothnia"), which he later fused into the less ideological '' Maalaisväestön liitto'' ("Union of the Rural Population", later Centre Party of Finland). Oulu
Oulu ( , ; sv, Uleåborg ) is a city, municipality and a seaside resort of about 210,000 inhabitants in the region of North Ostrobothnia, Finland. Kaisa Kallio
Katariina "Kaisa" Kallio ( Nivala; 28 May 1878 – 25 November 1954) was a Finnish homemaker who was the spouse of the president of Finland from 1937 to 1940. She was married to Kyösti Kallio, the fourth president of Finland. Biography Katariina Nivala was born on 28 May 1878 in Nivala, Finland. She was the daughter of a farmer. Nivala attended a folk high school in Haapavesi, where she met Kyösti Kallio, the head of the local youth organization. They married in 1902 and had six children, including future education minister Kerttu Saalasti. After marriage, she became the hostess of a farm in Nivala; while Kyösti became increasingly involved in politics, Kaisa frequently turned down appointments to local committees.
