Kyron McMaster
Kyron McMaster (born 3 January 1997) is an athlete from the British Virgin Islands specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. He represented his country at the 2017 World Championships where he finished in the top three in his heat only to be disqualified for a lane infringement. Earlier, he won a bronze medal at the 2016 World U20 Championships. His personal best in the event is 47.08 seconds set in finishing fourth in the final of the 2020 Olympic Games 400m hurdles, on August 3, 2021. This is the current national record. His coach, Xavier "Dag" Samuels died on September 9, 2017 during Hurricane Irma. Road Town
Road Town, located on Tortola, is the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It is situated on the horseshoe-shaped Road Harbour in the centre of the island's south coast. The population was about 15,000 in 2018. The name is derived from the nautical term "the roads", a place less sheltered than a harbour but which ships can easily get to. A development called Wickham's Cay, consisting of two areas that were reclaimed from the sea and a marina, have enabled Road Town to emerge as a haven for yacht chartering and a centre of tourism. 2013 CARIFTA Games
The 2013 CARIFTA Games took place between March 30-April 1, 2013. The event was held at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. A report of the event was given for the IAAF. The games mark the seventh time in which the event was held in The Bahamas. The other years being 1976, 1978, 1981, 1984, 1992 and 2002. Bidding Process Bidding took place during the 2012 CARIFTA Games held in Bermuda. Initially four countries, namely the Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands and Martinique, had showed some interest in hosting the games. But ultimately Martinique withdrew its bid in favour of the Bahamas, and Barbados did not come forward with an official bid. The Bahamas was eventually chosen over the Cayman Islands to host the event. This was attributed to a myriad of reasons such as the newly constructed Thomas Robinson Stadium, the Bahamas's fortieth independence celebrations in 2013, and the fact that the country hadn't host the event in ten years. The 19th Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships were held in the Estadio Jorge "Mágico" González in San Salvador, El Salvador, between 29 June and 1 July 2012. The event was open for athletes from the invited countries, that are members of the Central American and Caribbean Athletic Confederation (CACAC), in two categories (newly defined in 2012): Junior A 18 to 19 years as of 31 December 2012 (born either 1993 or 1994), and Junior B 14 to 17 years as of 31 December 2012 (born in 1995, 1996, 1997, or 1998). By IAAF standards, Junior A is equal to Junior, while Junior B is equal to Youth. Hurricane Irma was an extremely powerful Cape Verde hurricane that caused widespread destruction across its path in September 2017. Irma was the first Category 5 hurricane to strike the Leeward Islands on record, followed by Maria two weeks later. At the time, it was considered as the most powerful hurricane on record in the open Atlantic region, outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico until it was surpassed by Hurricane Dorian two years later. The men's 400 metres hurdles event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 30 July and 3 August 2021 at the Olympic Stadium. 36 athletes from 26 nations competed. In what has been described as one of the greatest races in Olympic history, Karsten Warholm of Norway won, setting a new world record of 45.94 seconds. He beat his own previous record, set a month before, by 0.76 seconds; silver medalist Rai Benjamin of the United States beat the previous record by 0.53 seconds. 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships
The 2016 World U20 Championships in Athletics was an international athletics competition for athletes qualifying as juniors (born no earlier than 1 January 1997) which was held at Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak Stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland on 19–24 July 2016. It was the first time the competition had been held under the new name, having previously been known as World Junior Championships in Athletics. The championships were originally awarded to Kazan, Russia before the hosting rights were withdrawn as a result of ARAF being suspended by the IAAF. Since then, three cities expressed an interest in hosting the championships; on 7 January 2016, the decision was made to reallocate the championships to Bydgoszcz as it was the only city to submit a bid. The medal table was topped by the United States with 11 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals, followed by Kenya and Ethiopia.
