Kwai Chung Plaza (葵涌廣場) is a private housing estate and shopping centre located in the Kwai Tsing District at 7 – 11 Hing Fong Road, Kwai Chung, New Territories, Hong Kong. Kwai Chung
Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island, it is part of the Kwai Tsing District District of Hong Kong. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town. In 2000, it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km². Areas within Kwai Chung include: Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, Lai King, Tai Wo Hau. Kwai Chung is the site of part of the container port of Hong Kong. Origin of the name In earlier times Kwai Chung was called Kwai Chung Tsai (). New Territories
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory, and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Tsuen Wan Line
The Tsuen Wan line is one of the eleven lines of the metro network in Hong Kong's MTR. It is indicated in red on the MTR map. There are 16 stations on the line. The southern terminus is Central station on Hong Kong Island and the northwestern terminus is Tsuen Wan station in the New Territories. A journey on the entire line takes 35 minutes. Kwai Fong Station
Kwai Fong () is an elevated railway station on of Hong Kong's MTR system. Opened on 10 May 1982, it is located between and stations. Named after Kwai Fong Estate, a large public housing estate to its northeast, Kwai Fong, the neighbourhood around the station, has become a transit interchange, business centre, as well as the landmark area of Kwai Chung. Since opening, all sorts of road transportation from various places in the Kwai Tsing District have converged here. A shopping centre (Metroplaza) was also built west of the station in the early 1990s. The station also serves those who work in the factories to its east. Kwai Fong Estate
Kwai Fong Estate () is a public housing estate in Kwai Fong, Kwai Chung, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was built in the reclaimed land of Gin Drinkers Bay, later the town centre of Kwai Chung, south of Kwai Hing Estate. Kwai Fong station is named after the name of the estate. It comprises twelve buildings with a total of 6,400 units and a shopping arcade. Background Before redevelopment, it consisted of 11 buildings which were completed between 1971 and 1973. In 1982, the buildings were revealed to have structural defects. In 1985, the HKHA announced that the strength of the concrete in blocks 8, 9, 10 and 11 of Kwai Fong Estate was below standard. Those blocks were demolished between 1985 and 1989. Other old buildings were also demolished in the 1990s to cope with the estate redevelopment. Metroplaza
Metroplaza () is a shopping centre and office building developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties, officially opened in January 1993. It is located in Kwai Fong, Hong Kong and is opposite to Kwai Fong station of MTR. The mall is a shopping hub of adjacent areas of Kwai Fong, Lai King, Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung. While Metroplaza provides spacious shopping environment, another shopping centre Kwai Chung Plaza adjoining offers varieties of small shops. The mall had undergone major renovation from 2014 to November 2017. The mall is adjacent to Kwai Tsing Theatre. Temporary Housing Area
A Temporary Housing Area (THA; ) is an area designated for people living in temporary houses made by wood frames and zinc plates in Hong Kong. The houses are built by the Hong Kong Government beginning in 1964 to replace wooden huts and squatter areas that began to emerge in the late 1940s and 1950s. The name was created in the 1980s to replace the original reference of ''Licensed area''. The building design was likely influenced from military barracks. Each house is divided into tens of tiny flats, with one flat per household. Most of the THAs were demolished by the 1990s and the last demolished was in 2001. Kwai Shing East Estate
Kwai Shing East Estate () is a public housing estate in Kwai Shing, Kwai Chung, New Territories, Hong Kong located at the east of Kwai Shing West Estate and near MTR Kwai Hing station. It consists of ten residential blocks completed between 1990 and 2003. History Kwai Shing East Estate was formerly Kwai Shing Estate () which had nine blocks (blocks 12 to 20) completed in 1972 and 1973. In 1977, these blocks were renamed as Kwai Shing East Estate. In 1985, the HKHA announced that the strength of the concrete in Blocks 18 and 20 of the estate were below standard. Those blocks were demolished in 1989. The remaining blocks (except block 12) were demolished and replaced by new buildings in the 1990s and 2000s.
