Kurdistan Premier League
The Kurdistan Premier League is the foremost association football league in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It is overseen by the Iraqi Kurdistan Football Association. The league is not officially recognized by FIFA or any of its confederations, therefore cannot compete in their continental or intercontinental competitions. The season runs from August and finishes in May, with each playing twenty six matches each. During the season, clubs compete for the Kurdistan Cup, which follows with the Kurdistan Super Cup, a contest held between league winners and the cup winners. The current champions are New Sirwan SC, who have just won their first league title. History The first season was the 2006/07 season, which saw Duhok Football Club crowned as the first champions. Only nine clubs participated in the 2017/18 Kurdistan Premier League season, which did not start until February 2018 after five teams pulled out. Kurdistan ( ku, کوردستان ,Kurdistan ; lit. "land of the Kurds") or Greater Kurdistan is a roughly defined geo-cultural territory in Western Asia wherein the Kurds form a prominent majority population and the Kurdish culture, Kurdish languages, languages, and national identity have historically been based. Chamchamal FC
Chamchamal ( ku, چه‌مچه‌ماڵ, Çemçemal, ar, جمجمال) is a town located in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Controlled by Kurdistan, it is the town which is nearest located to the disputed territories of Northern Iraq. Chamchamal is home to the Gorani-speaking Hamawand tribe. Iraqi Kurdistan or Southern Kurdistan ( ku, باشووری کوردستان, Başûrê Kurdistanê) refers to the Kurdish-populated part of northern Iraq. It is considered one of the four parts of "Kurdistan" in Western Asia, which also includes parts of southeastern Turkey (Northern Kurdistan), northern Syria (Western Kurdistan), and northwestern Iran (Eastern Kurdistan). Newroz Sport Club ( ar, نادي نوروز الرياضي), is an Iraqi football team based in Sulaymaniyah, that plays in Iraqi Premier League. History 2019–20 season In the 2019 season, the Kurdistan Football Association announced the cancellation of the Kurdistan Premier League due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shaqlawa ( ku, شەقڵاوە, Şeqlawe, ar, شقلاوة, ) is a historic city and a hill station in the Erbil Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
