Kyzylkol
Kyzylkol ( kk, Қызылкөл; russian: Кызылколь) is a lake in Sozak District, Turkestan Region, Kazakhstan. The lake lies east of Sholakkorgan town and a little to the west of Kumkent. Kyzylkol lake is a Important Bird Area, where tens and even hundreds of thousands of birds may rest at the lake at a given time. Geography Kyzylkol is located in an arid area to the north of the northern slopes of the Karatau Mountains. The lake has an elongated shape from east to west. It lies at the bottom of a round basin, surrounded by two terrace-like concentric strips of terrain with takir and salt marsh near the shores. The western and southern coastline is steep with loess cliffs, but to the north and east it is flat. The Ushbas river flows into the southeastern shore of the lake from the Karatau. Akzhar
Akzhar ( kk, Ақжар; russian: Акжар) is a salt lake group in the Zhambyl and Turkistan regions, Kazakhstan. The lakes lie northwest of Saudakent town and northeast of Kumkent. The Akzhar lake zone includes a Important Bird Area. Geography The cluster of lakes is located in an arid, sandy sector of the Muyunkum Desert to the north of the northern slopes of the Karatau Mountains. The border between the Sozak District of Turkestan Region and Sarysu District of Zhambyl Region runs from the SSW to NNE across the lakes. The lakes are all salty and, although there are considerable seasonal changes in water levels, many are dry most of the year. In between the waterbodies there are sandy dunes or mounds, interspersed with alkaline patches, salt marshes and salt flats. The lakes are scattered over a large area. Sentinel-2 is an Earth observation mission from the Copernicus Programme that systematically acquires optical imagery at high spatial resolution (10 m to 60 m) over land and coastal waters. Turkistan Region (), formerly South Kazakhstan Region ( kk, Оңтүстік Қазақстан облысы, translit= Oñtüstık Qazaqstan oblysy) (russian: Южно-Казахстанская область, ') from 1992–2018 and Chimkent Region (russian: Чимкентская область, ') from 1963 to 1991 is the southernmost region of Kazakhstan.
