Kullaa is a former municipality of Finland. It joined Ulvila on 1 January 2005. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Satakunta region. The municipality had a population of 1,601 (2003) and covered an area of 283.19 km² of which 19.46 km² is water. The population density was 5.7 inhabitants per km². Hannele Ruohola-Baker
Hannele Ruohola-Baker is a Professor of Biochemistry and Associate Director of the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Her research focuses on the molecular biology of stem cells and on the use of ''Drosophila'' (fruit flies) as model organisms for human diseases. Early life and education Ruohola-Baker was born in the small village of Kullaa, Finland in 1959. She received her bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Helsinki and received her Ph.D. in cell biology from Yale University in 1989, studying cellular transport and advised by Susan Ferro-Novick. She then moved to a visiting fellowship at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and subsequently to a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco with Yuh Nung and Lily Jan. Kauko Kangasniemi
Kauko Kalevi Kangasniemi (18 November 1942 – 17 April 2013) was a Finnish heavyweight weightlifter. He competed in the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics and placed seventh on both occasions. Between 1969 and 1972 he won three medals at the world and European championships and set five world records in the snatch. Kangasniemi was born to a blacksmith and had seven brothers and three sisters. Four of his brothers were Finnish champions in weightlifting, and one, Kaarlo Kaarlo is a Finnish given name. Kaarlo Kangasniemi
Kaarlo Olavi Kangasniemi (born 4 February 1941) is a retired Finnish weightlifter. Between 1968 and 1972 he won one Olympic, two world and two European titles in the 90 kg division, becoming the only Finnish weightlifter to win either an Olympic or world title. In the same period he set 16 ratified world records: four in the press, seven in the snatch and five in the total. He placed sixth at the 1972 Olympics and seventh in 1964. Kangasniemi was chosen as the world's best weightlifter in 1969 and as the Finnish Sports Personality of the Year in 1968 and 1969. After retiring from senior competitions in 1973 he worked as a weightlifting coach and weightlifting commentator with Eurosport; he continued competing in the masters category, winning a world title and setting a clean and jerk world record. Edla Sofia Hjulgrén (née ''Lundström''; 28 June 1875, Kullaa - 21 May 1918, Viipuri) was a Finnish politician. She was married to a sawmill worker. Western Finland
Western Finland ( fi, Länsi-Suomen lääni, sv, Västra Finlands län) was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Oulu, Eastern Finland and Southern Finland. Ulvila
Ulvila (; sv, Ulvsby) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is one of the six medieval cities of Finland, as well as the third oldest city in the country. Ulvila was granted charter as a town by King Albert of Sweden on 7 February 1365. However, its town privileges were taken over by Pori in 1558. After 442 years, Ulvila regained town privileges in 2000. Ulvila is located in the region of Satakunta and the former province of Western Finland. Satakunta (in both Finnish and Swedish, ) is a region ( / ) of Finland, part of the former Western Finland Province. It borders the regions of Southwest Finland, Pirkanmaa, South Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. The capital city of the region is Pori. The name of the region literally means Hundred.
